I remember my Chicago year - learned the meaning of cold. The lake frozen out as far as the eye could see, mists of frosted vapor; shoveled sidewalks and streets plowed based upon who on them knew important people rather than how important the road was. From this comes my memories:
The 1978-79 New Year's Eve snowstorm was just one of many that winter that combined to produce Chicago's all-time snowiest winter, delivering 89.7 inches of snow. ... Less than two weeks later the famed "Blizzard of '79" dumped more than 20 inches of snow on the city from Jan. 12-14, bringing the city to a standstill
The stuff just never melts until summer (some found in a quarry, from the plowing, in August, still unmeleted - or so it was reported). I spent well over two hour+ getting from Rogers Park to Evanston (Northwestern Univ) - my feet had almost lost their feeling through the boots.

For you guys, 12" is just a dusting.

Ravings en masse^
