So we're in the midst of a Nor'easter, here, in the North-eastern coast of the US (storm named after wind direction, not the location). Snow predictions, at least for my area, are erratic, but the wind guests are expected to reach 50 mph (80 kmh) from the NE.
So this guy went out shoveling for a while but soon came back into his house. He wasn't feeling quite right. It seems he got a head cold while he was out there. He then realized that next time he went out he should check to be sure his fly is closed . . . .

Yeah - it's big. I'm on a barrier island south of Long Island (east of NYC).[^]
Alas, 20cm seems to be the low end. It's a bit tricky for our particular location. Because we're right on ocean the weather's often a bit warmer than even nearby areas - so depending upon which prediction one looks at the range is 8" - 18" (20 - 45cm) - but the weathers hugging 0 C and slightly above - there's some rain expected, too, and maybe sleet, and maybe not.
If you want to see "the latest local", taking into account that they disagree a lot:

Actually, the 18" has been ramped down on these two to 12" (12" = 30cm). Too bad they can keep ramping it down and back what's already fallen.

I remember my Chicago year - learned the meaning of cold. The lake frozen out as far as the eye could see, mists of frosted vapor; shoveled sidewalks and streets plowed based upon who on them knew important people rather than how important the road was. From this comes my memories:
The 1978-79 New Year's Eve snowstorm was just one of many that winter that combined to produce Chicago's all-time snowiest winter, delivering 89.7 inches of snow. ... Less than two weeks later the famed "Blizzard of '79" dumped more than 20 inches of snow on the city from Jan. 12-14, bringing the city to a standstill The stuff just never melts until summer (some found in a quarry, from the plowing, in August, still unmeleted - or so it was reported). I spent well over two hour+ getting from Rogers Park to Evanston (Northwestern Univ) - my feet had almost lost their feeling through the boots.
For you guys, 12" is just a dusting.

The late 70's-early 80's did indeed have some brutal winters, where you hear the crunch of snow from Thanksgiving into March. Perhaps in '79 my back could handle it better, hell we were doing back flips off our roof into a giant snow mound we made.

We don't get that much snow anymore; but I just pour a kilo of salt.
Also pour that kilo during summer, since it kills weeds, not just snow.
Salt is why Rome reigned in Europe, and not Carthage. And because, of course, Carthage must burn.

You're right, we don't get that much snow (or cold) anymore. Now, those things occur once every few years, and the media goes crazy with it.

Going down to 46F here tonight. Doesn't sound cold but water freezes at 60F here. Many (many, many) years ago, I spent a fun filled winter in Fairbanks Alaska. Snow was axle deep to a Ferris Wheel.
If you can keep your head while those about you are losing theirs, perhaps you don't understand the situation.

If it's not instructions on working on cars, count me out. Pretty much everything else can (and should!) be written down, while a Chilton's manual will only get you so far when it comes to auto repair. The videos help.
