Settings -> Update and Security. Change the active hours so it doesn't do it while you are working.

That would imply we are trusted enough to have access to the settings, just tried it & no. We have to 'buy' software licences for a project, it seems the US side won't trust anyone (a case of 'In God we trust, All other cash'?)

I think you are attacking the wrong people. The people who restrict your freedom are most likely your local IT management or DevOps. Those people sometimes have some strange ideas about what is "dangerous" to let plain developers have access to. (Example: My PC clock was not properly set, but those guy down on the ground floor thought it too dangerous to let me synchronize it with the NTP time server!)
If your employer buys IT management services from some external consultant, then that consultant is the target for your criticism. It is not set by neither the OS, the US or anyone that doesn't handle your computer, but those who manage your company's PCs.

With me, I'm pretty sure it's the system that is bust. For instance I have to get permission from my assigned manager to change to my actual manager. All links and documents were sent to an email I can't access for two reasons a) The company I work for split away from a larger (uber company) so everyone used to have an email address @XXYY.com so the split was everyone had two accounts @XX.com & YY.com, now policy changed and new starter were given XX.com only, no one updates the system that I don't have a YY.com address and so it sends the mail there. b) I would go and talk to the manager however they are in a different time zone. Our local IT seem to know whats what though. Oddly obsessed with goat curry...

On the other hand... I can relate to many of the things you tell us

I was under the impression many of my incedents were due to a mix of incompetance mixed with a general dislike for managment, maybe not then. My job isn't too bad (I like it at the moment) Just at times I feel the urge to rage to those who can't get offeneded by it.

I like my job too, but the burocraties we get... they can sometimes...   
Last one: there MUST be only one partition in the laptops.

Windows doesn't restart, it bluescreens. (Well generally)
Overheating is normally not a problem anymore, with all safety mechanisms that are built in to the processors nowadays.
But it's still probably hardware related.
You're a hardware guy, it's time to vacuum the cooler and the fan just in case, check that the fan rotates properly (eventually give it a drop of oil), check all the contacts etc.
Run the bios self test.
I haven't seen this type of problem for many years though, and last time it was a faulty MB.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned this yet (although I've only read the first responses to your posting; I didn't dig deeper into the thread).
Don't forget that nowadays, when Windows blue-screens, it automatically reboots without pausing at the BSOD itself (MS in its infinite wisdom has decided a while back that very few people can read or do anything about what's shown in the BSOD text, so why leave it on at all when it's shown)...
I find that to be a more likely explanation (bad driver?) than the update service deciding on its own to reboot immediately without giving you any warning whatsoever. And I'm saying this as someone who has no end of complaints about update prompt options.
For Win10 20H2: Start, Settings, System, About, Advanced System Settings (on the right side), then Settings (inside the Startup and Recovery groupbox), and see the state of the "Automatically restart" checkbox. If you uncheck it, and it happens again, you should be able to confirm this was indeed the reason. Hard to tell in hindsight however.

Ah but the machine is SO locked down, you have to be an admin. For instance I had too fight with off shore IT to get to see CP, I haven't logged into ![Green Alien | [Alien]](https://codeproject.global.ssl.fastly.net/script/Forums/Images/alien.gif) yet as that will casue 'issues'. So I post from home!

Gotcha. I thought this was a system you had control over. You have my sympathy. I'm not sure what to suggest...I suspect that even if you asked them to make an exception, they'd want you to justify it. Not sure how receptive they might be.

The dang thing has a mind of it's own, plus to do my job and get files I needed I have to beg some one to download and email them to me (as my ID got messed up, I give a better explanation of what happened above). After trading emails today I have placed an axe next to laptop, for reasons that defy explantion it has started to work?
