Nary a "bang", "whizzzzzz", or "flashzhzhzhzh" around here last night - and I don't recall seeing them on sale either.
Definitely a good thing: the cat normally gets freaked by them even with Feliway.

More than I ever remember here. Pretty much continuous between 9pm and 1am. God knows where the "Essential Fireworks" shop is; and so does everyone else, it seems. Either that or they've had them all tucked under the bed for a few months; a scary thought. And oddly, there were a huge number of "essential journeys" made shortly after midnight this morning.
To be fair, I suppose some people would normally have gone to an organised event but this year just did their own thing.
One thing's for sure, though; despite what you hear on the news, people don't seem to be hard up - they literally have (lots of) money to burn.

We had a total of about 30 fireworks in 5 separate groups. Quietest New Years Eve in 5 years.
My mom had to work till midnight last night (she works at a Liquor store). Was mass mayhem and utter chaos. Smashed several sales records, though. The store usually closes at 10, and the company forgot to put the extended hours on the website, so it got quiet around then, so they had two hours to have some fun (ended up doing a pizza party).
What do you get when you cross a joke with a rhetorical question?
The metaphorical solid rear-end expulsions have impacted the metaphorical motorized bladed rotating air movement mechanism.

Oxy-Acetylene bombs using 1.25L soft-drink bottles are bad enough.
The dad of a friend from school took us out to the paddock one night as 8 year olds. Took us over to the reloading shed to fill the 4L ice-cream container with a suitable mix from the welding bottles, stuffed a rag into the hole in the lid, has us retreat behind trees before lighting the rag and joining us. Little kids don't have great attention-spans and rags don't burn all that fast. Holy Hell - what a shock when that went boom. (pun intended)
There's a (BBC program) video of an acetylene-powered vortex generator - but it's 'only' a 200 litre chamber. Vortex Cannon! - Bang Goes the Theory Preview
It looked like there were potentially like 2x 44gal drums on that trailer. Ouch!
It'd be a bit of a different story with propane or petrol. It's the acetylene that makes it terrifying.
I knew a fella studying 3rd or 4th yr chem at uni, yet wasn't bright enough to think about shock-waves and glass. He put soapy water into the bath-tub then dragged the gas bottles inside. Yeah, seriously!
The mirror survived and so did the shower screen. The window wasn't quite so fortunate, though from memory, it got off easier than he did! (he was living with his parents at the time)

Same. Ian & I thought putting some diesel in a coke bottle was pretty 'ardcore. (of course, we couldn't even get it lit)

Oh neat. I've got a couple of friends that suffer its effects. I always thought it caused portions of text to be erroneously re-arranged. Hadn't realized it also caused letters to be lost. I found a "d" and an "a" that seem to have your name on em, here'go fella. 
Of course, the ironic thing is none of the other posts spelled dyslexic properly!

Saw an example of an awe-inspiring egg-corn 2 days ago. There was a supporter of Donald that was dressed up and frankly, looked a bit like a Dr Seuss character - perhaps the Cat In The Hat.
Somehow, the word we use to describe a method of solving/calculating something was turned into something that seemed to describe a lady and repetitious behaviour. You see, she kept talking about Olga's broken Rhythm. They broke the Olga Rhythm you see!
It is the best egg-corn I've seen all year. Shame it was the 2nd of January instead of a few days earlier though.
