Sigh...no one ever talks about that when discussing languages. I used it daily until we switched from IDX (GE Healthcare) to Epic, which is not as thrilled about letting programmers at the raw globals. I love that language! It holds a strong second place (sorry, LISP will always be #1 as the first language I learned outside of college to extend the Word Processing system (Interleaf) we were using before Word because so feature-full). I could make that thing jump through hoops (or spell-check all documents in a folder and index them all, too). Simple things now...not so much so back in the 80s. But, you did say recent, so I hold my Other vote is for MUMPS/M/Cache ObjectScript. Anyone else or am I a unicorn here?

Many years ago I used a dialect of MUMPS called MIIS created at the MASS Gen Hosp. I loved the language then but now I really prefer compiled languages.

I did and I am! It is still widely used in healthcare (although some companies allow more programmer access than others!) and as I understand it, the financial sector uses it widely, too. It's a great language. Intersystems now calls it Cache ObjectScript, but when I learned it, it was MUMPS. It's great at handling large amounts of data efficiently.
Really, I'm thrilled that there are other people who even know the language exists. I was starting to feel like (I was gong to say dinosaur, but that would lead credence to your question so I'll say I was feeling like) a unicorn. Yeah, a magical, unique, imaginary unicorn! Thanks for the laugh.

Such is the life of an embedded developer. C and Assembly on the automotive CPU, C++ on the Linux CPU (both on the same board).
I also used C++ for the last 8 years and a half, on windows desktop / embedded industrial systems, plus Assembly (fast operations need to be fast) and VB6. Since I am now 2 years clean from VB6 I did not mention it.

I checked it, Java and SQL too.
Would have checked C but it said recent past. I miss C, it made me feel smart. Working in Java with all the SpringBoot crap which is just VooDoo code makes me feel like I'm not really in control of my code.

I'm not sure if I should envy or pity you.
Envy because you probably have serious job security since you are pretty much irreplaceable for legacy systems, but pity because you're pretty much irreplaceable for legacy systems ... So you don't get much else.

One of them is me.
I used to do FORTRAN IV and Fortran-77 a lot (I liked it). I also had to do a little COBOL and now, again, I have had to do some COBOL (reading the source code only) to fix a problem with the mainframe part of one of our systems.
Happily I do C# mostly - my favourite language. It used to be Rexx but now it's definitely C#.

We have a desktop application that is commercially sold to businesses. It uses COBOL for much of it's older processing of binary data storage files. Then we have Delphi for a front end. And then we use C# for all the new stuff (integrations, new features, etc.), which requires a COM interface with the Delphi. We actually embed the C# UI into the Delphi UI via OLE. Fun!

I'm still in the BCS FORTRAN SIG (in fact it is the only BCS SIG that I am a member of) but it looks very foreign to me as it has changed a lot since I last used it, probably at the end of the last millennium. It was my first High Level Language (early 1970s) and it was also how I met my wife (she had to learn it at Uni and was struggling, so I was called in to help). Suffice to say, she passed and we've just celebrated our 40th Wedding Anniversary.
