It's unbelievably ironic that's their value metric for questions. It's the exact opposite of what a site should look for if they're wanting to help people solve problems.

Not to come to their defense, but I see where they're coming from. There would be a lot more noise if their forums were a complete free-for-all. By being heavily moderated, the noise is cut down and it's a lot easier to find answers. But again, at the cost of making it difficult to ask a question. And I don't think they really care about trying to find the right balance.

Their moderation has become entrenched with the overweaning goal of filtering out all but the most interesting, most appropriate, most elite questions. It's a badge of honor to reject as many questions as possible. The intent appears to be that you the questioner should feel honored that they considered your question at all, much less answered it.

Agreed completely - I'll go there if this is where search results point me to, but I'm otherwise absolutely uninterested in participating in that community. If that's their goal, then mission accomplished.

a lot of questions are already answered. It is better to google for it. I gives me good results on ios.
Press F1 for help or google it.

In case it wasn't clear, I search with Google - and it's likely to bring back results from SO. I never proactively go to SO and start searching from there.

There's no such thing as a contract stating that you have to stay with CP, you're free to go where you want.
I generally use google, there's almost always someone that already had the same problem as me. And often enough I end up finding a solution at SO.

I don't think SO has a Lounge like this, where you can officially rant.

SO has a lot of chat rooms, and I mean a lot. I believe there is at least one for general chit and/or chat, but I don't use them so not sure exactly.

SO is great if you take the time to word your question correctly, post a poor question and the experience is not so fun.
Having said that, post a poor question on CP and you will most likely get shot down too.
Stupidity brings out the worst in us programmer types.

I think SO is a lot pickier than most other programming sites because they're focused on a long term goal of building a Googlable knowledge base rather than primarily helping people asking questions; and have tuned their moderation cleanup loop towards nuking anything that doesn't fit the former goal asap. I've used it successfully a lot in the past; although between being less experienced as a web dev now than a winform dev years ago and SO having so many more questions answered I very rarely need to ask anything new these days.

Sorting through my favourite stones now....
However I have found relevant and sometimes vital information after doing a google search which returned stuff from SO.
So the stones that I have chosen for you are just tiny little ones. Little pebbles really.

If I google for help, SO is generally my last resort - and I'll admit it's to not boost it's rankings vs. CP .
However, when stuck, I've found the answer often (mostly) worthless and a inbuilt level of rudeness seems to be part of the culture (akin to: this was asked 15 years ago - question closed).
However #2: maybe it's for the best - would we want Q&A input to go up ten-fold or more?
