I work off a thumb drive so I can work from either my desktop at home, or my laptop while at lunch at work.
At lunch today, I sat down to finally finish up the application, and when I tried to load a file in VS, it said the file was not found. Looked on the drive, and sure enough, it was gone.
The problem - it was a base class that had about 90% of the entity rendering code in it.
This is a major setback, and if it wasn't for the fact that we needed this app at work, I'd just say fuk it and abandon the whole project.
I'm severely disappointed and angry about the whole thing. :/

My condolences. On the plus side, you won't do that again.
You won't, will you?? (Just dump the project off the thumb drive onto both work and home machines each time you swap over; or (what I do normally) is open a free hosted subversion account (or Git) and commit to there when swapping machines.

Git is entirely local and file system based. GitHub is a hosting service that makes use of git.
With git you can manage your own versionin on your own thumbdrive and sync it with your own computer without any access to the Internet.
I started skeptical towards it, now I manage all my projects, even private ones.
Git command line is stupid complex (powerful, useful for automation) but many clients are portable and easy to use. I personally use SmartGit, which is free for personal use (paid a lifetime license for 80$ cause I use it at work too) but SourceTree is entirely free, I just prefer SmartGit interface.

However, maybe I've discovered a need to revisit my file synchronizing article ( Synchronicity - A Folder Synchronizing Application [^] ), and set it up on my desktop and laptop to sync files onto the hard drive on the respective boxes. That way, I'll have all of the files on at least one box.
