That is risky!

The English term "fathom" and the Norwegian term "favn" has a common root, and was originally the distance between your fingertips when you stretch your arms straight out.

Problems occur with the modern use of "favn". In human relations, "å favne", "å omfavne", "å favne om" is to put your arms around someone, to embrace them (in a warm and heartily sense). "Jeg vil ta deg i min favn" (I will take you in my arms) is even closer, more protecting, like a parent holding around arms around his child. Definitely not any social distancing. Quite to the contrary.

Danish and Swedish have the same issue (although in Swedish I believe it is "famn"). So I thin we should rather stick to the kicking style of indicating distance.
