Right...I have a vague recollect. If it's a video, not tied to anything, and that's the extent of it...sure, I can live with that. It's when you have a series of headlines, for example, and you can't tell which is real, and which isn't...that's when things simply get annoying.

That's pretty much where I stand. Most people couldn't pull off a good prank if their lives depended on it; most fall flat. So I can do without a day where everyone thinks he's God's gift to comedy. That's all I meant.

On both my linux desktop and my Win7 VM, I'm using Firefox v74.0 (the latest version).
On the Win7 VM, youtube runs without hindrance (other than the fact that they changed their interface).
On the Linux (Mint) host, I get a yellow banner stating that they "will stop supporting this browser soon", and the get the latest version. Also, the youtube home page doesn't show some of the thumbnails, and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme/reason as to which thumbnails won't be displayed.
Since I'm running the latest version of FireFox, I can only assume they mean that they won't support FireFox on Linux. I say this because I don't get the message in Chromium (open source version of chrome).
Just to be sure, I fired up my Lubuntu VM, and I get the same behavior - Firefox displays the banner, chromium does not. Again, the Windows VM doesn't display the banner either.

I actually tried to set it to chrome, and when I did that, CodeProject stopped showing me controls that let me start/reply to messages, and a couple of other sites refused to let me browse to them because I was violating some sort of security protocol that doesn't like spoofed user agent strings. That was really weird, so I undid that.

I don't have FF on a Linux installation, but have you tried using Enhancer for YouTube[^]?
It overrides a lot of the youtube crud, and it comes up in add-on searches set for Linux OS.

OK, so I didn't have a machine with Mint, but I still had a windows machine that I was happy to write over, so I downloaded a mint ISO, which, because everyone in the US hadn't yet had the common decency to go to bed and leave some bandwidth for the rest of us, ran at +/-40kbs.
The good news: During the (subjective) three months it took to download, the latest episode of the Best TV Show Ever* became available, so I watched that for part of the time that I had to wait.
The bad news: The &^%#& 4%^&(()& &%#%&* downloaded ISO was corrupt.
So, "bollocks", I thought, and went for sudo snap install firefox and make it bloody snappy because I'm getting pissed off with all the waiting!
The good news: It seems that the plug-in can be added to FF, straight from the web-site[^] (so it might be that my sending you the address from a windows VM messed up the link).
The bad news: I didn't get the pop-up when I opened youtube, so it might be a configuration thing.

I used to get the "stop supporting" popup too on Pale Moon (firefox offshoot)
try the following

you may want to change the (Pale Moon) to Firefox
I just found this googling around... it did get rid of the message (but changed the layout to the more "modern" version) - dun care, on pale moon only use subscriptions, for junk random youtubes I use crome.)

Not here, version 74. Mint 19.2 host and Mint 19.3 VM are fine. Don't run FF on my W VM's.
