Actually, as best as I can tell, it's an adaptation of a cynical expression one might use about another that cannot see the obvious "they can not see the forest because of the trees".
I adapted it, initially, to describe how I dodged answering people's questions when I was doing infrared laser photo chemistry to separate Uranium isotopes. A great deal of talking so as not to be rude about not answering - although in this case I just never got around to the answer. If you think about the tree, it would be hard to tell if it was not hidden in that forest, as well!
So - at least from my point of view - I sort of made it up and adapted the verbal technique I use to an expression.

English is full of 'em: Auto Antonyms, like "Handicap": "To give an advantage in sport", or "A disadvantage or disability". Or "Impregnable": "Impossible to enter", or "Able to be impregnated".

That one's worse than you think, because the "impossible to enter" usage is figurative usage of "cannot be made pregnant".
Using it as a synonym of "impregnatable" is where the bad logic lies.

We should consider Newspeak. Consistent, terse, simple. Politicallty sound.
Esperanto is a second alternative, but it lacks several of the qualities of Newspeak. The major problem is that it is not English based.

So, du to my elephanting network, I have to restart the computer every Monday morning to get it to work after a long and hard weekend. I need the network, because my company has the weekly planning meeting via Teams on Monday mornings.
But Microsoft seems to insist on releasing Win 10 updates so that they HAVE to be installed monday morning if you restart your computer. And that of course takes a long time and you never actually know WHEN your computer will be ready.
So it's really a choice of pest or cholera for me.
Do I restart the computer and install the elephanting updates and risk not having the computer ready for the most inmportant meeting of the week?
Or do I refrain from restarting it and not being able to join the meeting anyway because my network is not working?
This morning when I opened my start menu to restart my computer, I noticed to my great joy that I had TWO menu items where I normally only have one. Namely "Update and restart" and merely "Restart".
In my naivety, I thought that Microsoft had FINALLY allowed me to just restart the computer and let me install the update at my OWN convenience, so naturally, I clicked the "Restart" only option.
And what happened: It restarted AND began the update all the same! And it took the better part of an hour! Sigh!
