well, parsers are specialized, but data structures are not necessarily.
i write components and tools for other developers.
data structures are useful in the general sense.
parser generators are useful when you need parsing.

Just curious about one thing.
What happens to the performance when you play around with the DefaultMininumDegree?
A value of 3 is very low. on most databases were looking at numbers like 100-400. Well, this number is usually not set but rather depending on block size.

it doesn't make sense to set it to 200 here, as it's not disk backed. the main reason for doing that is to limit access to the nodes. no need to with an in memory tree
i should add: I've tried setting it to various values before, and 3 is the best general case i could find.

On your smart device, when/if you play games that contain ads, do you click those ads (because you are interested in the product, or are wanting to help the developer), or just endure the interruption and then get on with the game?
I find them fingernails-on-the-chalkboard annoying and will do most anything to avoid them, including uninstalling the game. I may be wrong, but I find it difficult to believe that the revenue from them outweighs the complaints about them.

The key thing for my mobile game playing is to have the sound turned off.
1. Most apps have annoying sound at best.
2. The ads are less annoying with the sound turned off.
I only play logic or word puzzles anyway.

Same here. Solitaire, Pyramid, Sudoku, 7 Little Words, Red Herring, and Monkey Wrench are the only ones on my game page.

The only game I play on my phone is a word jumble puzzle (Jumbline). And when I play that game, I turn off my wifi. Other than YouTube, none of my other apps display ads. Yet.

I had considered turning on airplane mode in the past, but I have three games that download a daily puzzle, followed immediately by an ad before game play begins.

Interesting, I'm wondering if there is a mobile based adblocker than blocks the serving of ads by blocking the IP/domain of the ad serving sites right at the network level. You could be on to something Jerry.

I've been on the internet since roughly 1994, and I'm being absolutely honest when I say that the only times I've ever clicked on an ad is when the browser hadn't yet fully loaded a page, and I clicked on a region to follow a link, but in the time it took for the click to register, an ad finished loading and forced the screen layout to change...so the browser thought I clicked on the ad rather than the link.
Back in the context you're talking about...I think you can draw your own conclusions.

I recall a torrent site back in the day doing that on purpose. the page would be loading but a link would be showing to download the torrent but through some kind of magic that link would drop an inch down and be replaced by an ad which was imediately triggered as a click before it even loaded.
Smart.. but eventully it was fixed or removed. The advertiser site probably figured out what was going on. I can't imagine the conversion rate being very good on an of these ads that show up within games.

I have generally removed games that rely on ads.
Any game that I really enjoy I will pay for in order to remove ads - like a sudoku app I purchased this afternoon which used to be ad free but started having ads a month or so ago.
Up to that point I have always just clicked on the cross to close the add at the first opportunity.

Internet off while playing games. If a game needs a download do it, then clear cache, then internet off and then play.
Any game that needs internet is uninstalled.

I generally share the sentiment, but really, I think most games nowadays require a connection at the very least to pass through some validation/authentication phase, if it's a game you've purchased.
Case in point: I quit gaming pretty much altogether well over a decade ago, but still make an exception for whenever a new installment of the Grand Theft Auto series comes out. GTA5 (now 6 years old) phones home to validate the game when launching it, and persist your saved game to "the cloud". It plain won't work in a disconnected state.
Of course, I have a machine that's dedicated to playing games, so if a game wants to spy on me and my habits, it'll find the machine is used to...play games and not much else. I don't even browse the web on it.

I only have two games on my phone and I paid for both so they have no ads. If I had a game that did that I would immediately uninstall it. I have no interest in adware.

I hate ads because they try to brainwash the viewers and manipulate them to buy stuff they don't need. I find it very cumbersome to decrypt all the subconscious messages in order to compensate and nullify them. So I decided it's better not to watch any ads right from the start.
Of course I understand programmers who want to earn some money giving the marketing people a platform for their vicious stuff. But imho, an app develper who displays ads is also partially responsible for what exactly is displayed and what damage this inflicts to the world. Sorry, guys!

I don't ever tap them and I usually uninstall the game the moment there's ads. I'd gladly pay a couple bucks for a mobile game if the game is good, but ads (or gameplay tuned to strongarm players into spending money) is an immediate indicator of the game not being worth my time.
