Usually by technobabbling the points of strenght of our products (competitors and customers technobabble all the time, I'm the one who counter technoconfuse the enemy), pointing out the fallacies (if any) in their arguments and pushing on how our solution nails precisely their problem and is better than the alternative(s).
The real persuasion is left to the sales man, I just point out the technical side.

When designing the UI for applications or product interface I will work with Sales and Marketing to assure that their expectations are met and that they understand the flow of the UI. It is important they understand how the product is to be used for the best performance. But no, I don't sell the product.
It was broke, so I fixed it.
