Although it's overkill for most people, if you have other needs for it anyway, then WSUS is the way to go if you're trying to have the final say on OS updates. And that covers all versions of Windows.
Not a single update can slip through without you (a) asking for it and (b) approving it. IF you configure it right (which is pretty trivial).

Not that I've ever tried this, but wouldn't the OS start popping up warning messages incessantly? At least with WSUS, you don't have to turn off Windows Update on the clients...

So you can turn off WU without a single warning, yet if you dare turn off the firewall, OMG, the sky's falling...even though you're sitting behind a router that does a much better job than the Windows Firewall could ever wish to be capable of doing. Or the AV.

MS account. Nothing has varied from my sigin / sleep procedures. No setting changes. Nada. This was triggered by their update. While in sleep mode.

Why the fuss? I have one pin to sign in to Windows, and different pins for my bank and credit cards.

Why do I object to someone "putting a lock on my own house"?
Or consider this: it wanted a new pin without me signing in ... in which case, "whose" pin is it?
No explanation, no "cancel" ... just a loop.

Myself I actually like to turn my computers off when I am not using them.
