Honestly,
I understand the question but I do not let that come so close to me that I'd write a letter to Santa to give me something for my JOB.
It surely depends on local culture and how intense you celebrate christmas, but **IF** there is an event that shall remind you and turn your thoughts to your family, than its this one.

So I always kept one principle up (for me, personally): No electronics, no computer games, no job/IT stuff under the tree!
We do not make "presents" in our family (our kids are an exception of course, I am talking about parents/granny).
Amazon doesn't see a cent from me during christmas time.

WHAT we do, is, that we come together quite early, spend the day (sometimes 2 days..., depends) together, prepare some fine food, spending hours together in the kitchen, chatting, and we just take the time to do what we do on those days.
Sometimes we play board games in the evening, sometimes we open a quality bottle of wine (or two... shometimesh threeee **cough** Roll eyes | )... no honestly, we have a good day together but that's it.

We have good relations in our families, we don't meet only once a year, but on this special day it's dedicated to do things together, just to make it different from the "coffee and cookies" every 3 weeks for an afternoon at the weekends.

May sound boring for some of you, but when you get older, you enjoy TIME more than money/gifts.
