I would really like to try one of those. Either one actually. As it is, we run out of CPU and have to distribute the load for our app. With that many cores we might be able to get by with one box. We are investigating using GPUs now. This could be a fun re-write.

.NET has APIs for locating special folders that can be used for application and user configuration and data storage. Linux doesn’t have a “My Documents” folder?

Well, yes. But I always think of it as "way to get .NET developer or app on Linux", not "Linux developer using .NET".
It hurts my brain in that direction as well. Maybe I just need my brain looked at?

Either this bug, or a similar one, goes back to Windows 7 where you sometimes couldn't change the "default" program.
