You are probably right, they have put work to it. But, if I just express my opinion, I would give full votes for Reflector because it is THE tool for .NET programming. It is my belief you can't do serious stuff without the actual code from the CLR and as such, I would vote for the way it gets integrated in the IDE with this add-in. Why Reflector (or Anakrino) are necessary is that the MSDN .NET reference documentation is mostly the result of an automated process, not human documentation. There had to be a nice compliment to it.

- reflector has a much stronger C#/VB.NET decompiler, such that the decompiled code fully supports all IL commands. On the other hand, the labelling (goto statement) is much better handled.
- reflector provides navigation links everywhere. It's just unbelievable how easy navigation becomes. In short, you don't even use the class tree anymore. The most obvious use of it is for all base.xxxx method calls.

Pardon me Nish, I am totally bought to Reflector (although my former boss would bite me to death because he's publishing a class browser in MSDN mag in the near future, and there are chances that it's somewhat more primitive than reflector).
Of course, anyone can use Rotor instead. But now that Reflector is integrated in the IDE, I guess the choice becomes obvious...

Very true. The decompiler is awesome. It's still also the best class browser out there.

Is me or is too many people for this competition from rules?
- Submissions up to 30 June 2003 from May 2003 when competition started.
- VS.NET or Outlook add-in, not VC 6
One of these been in development with nearly two years, other one with over three years! Is this fair to all?

I would not take it so seriously WiB. There will be other competitions. Also Chris and the admin may simply have missed a few articles (there are a LOT of articles here on CP.) They also probably included the VC6 articles because there was not a huge turn-out for this competition.
And before anyone tells me to shut up because I am not in the running and therefore cannot talk about the seriousness of this; I have a VS.NET Add-In article here on CP  (and a half finished one for this competition, damned upcoming Greek holiday taking time away from competitions )

I fully agree, Paul. And let me qualify by saying I submitted an article as well, but it was for an Excel addin, not Outlook or VStudio, so I was not eligible.
Unless we start paying the CP staff's salaries, we can only expect a best effort. And yes, things will fall through the cracks. And who has time to compile and vote on every article ever written here on addins?
I don't need a tshirt that badly.

I appreciate the sentiments but if you feel this strongly about it then why not mention it on the page the competition was first announced? With competitions it's more about steering people's ideas in a certain direction to think about things they may not have thought about before than trying to find the perfect solution for a given problem. I'm open to having a range of competitions to find the best article on a given topic, but that simply wasn't the goal here - hence the time limit.
With regards to Oz's entry it did include new functionality so was included. With the VS6 entry that was simply a search filter being too keen and me being too blurry eyed. It's been removed.
Just to prove that this is more about having fun than being organised I've added a late entry from an eager programmer who has been hassling me all morning to accept his (extremely late) entry.
Oh - and Rama Krishna automatically wins a T-shirt for being a legend.

Just because an article is already popular it does not give the right of excluding it from the competition, however even though it was re-written for VS.NET it raises arguments about the competition . I believe that the article should stay even though the project was already planned, designed, tested and implemented...actually that's why it should stay, go to the authors home page and see how much effort he has put in the project!

First off, I want to offer my personal opinion to what was directly said about my entry: Although Line Counter has been around for a long time, it has been updated to comply to with the rules of the competition (e.g. external XML source, VS.NET 2003 compatibility). I believe that, after all, the competitions are intended to serve the communities by giving back to those who share and also as an incentive for people to actually spend the time to write new code. There was in fact new code written for Line Counter (as well as a healthy addition to the article) due to this competition, and this is why I submitted it for the competition.
There is criticism about the fact that Line Counter is not a new product and therefor I had the benefit of submitting code that has been in development for a while. I started wroting a long paragraph about the fact that this is a double sided coin (as others had the benefit of learning from my code where there was no such thing for me when I started), but that's not the point really. Maintaining something like Line Counter is hard work and I find it strange that anyone would think that my doing so should disqualify me

This is a community site. We're not about bureaucracy here, nor are we about deadlines and strict rules. Chris isn't grading a term paper and I don't see anything wrong with someone sending in an entry late. I mean, if it's a VS.NET addin that is somewhat within the scope of the competition, why not? I personally hang out here to have fun and share with my peers. So let's put this all in perspective, shal we?
