Congrats on 22 years. I can't forget dates and stuff, ever since I was a kid things like that just stick, old ladies hated that I'd remember their birthday and also how old they were.
24 years since I got engaged next Friday and 30 years since we started going out on 21st October.
The Missus is the one to forget stuff so I'm all clear on that one. I hate cards, the Missus wants to keep all of them from everyone. I spent time throwing them away when she ain't watching. Plus I want the money for the card and wrapping paper put into the present. My Mum's side of the family used to do that and wrap the presents in newspaper and write on it with a texta who it was for and who it was from.

Today we are releasing Visual Studio 2017 version 15.8. In this version we have focused on productivity, performance and bug fixes. There are many new features you‘ll find useful...
So they are focussed on "productivity, performance and bug fixes"
but yet, "There are many new features"
new features a plenty, many of which range from useless to barely useful new features. (also left wondering how many new bugs these introduce.)
nary a note on which bugs were fixed - probably ran out of time packing in so much umm, err ... bloat.
really, since they abandoned the half cooked 2015 the vs team have really taken a huge turn for the worse. for the sake of stability I'm still chugging along on 2013, some new features look OK but not worth the headache (- rather stick to doing those 'new feature' things in a few more lines of code in a version that has less chance of letting me down).
dunno which is the bigger joke now: win 10 or vs 2017 updates and non-fixes.
This internet thing is amazing! Letting people use it: worst idea ever!

I think I should start playing the lottery because I must be so lucky. People complain all the time about Microsoft but for me, their products work great and always work. I've been using Win10 and VS2017 for a while and have no issues.
Everyone is born right handed. Only the strongest overcome it.

Lots of hobbyists who will shout that anything Microsoft is to blame.
Still, there is a noticable shift in the products delivered; the company that catered to "developers, developers, developers" is now catering more to marketing. It feels like the emphasis is on new and sexy UI's, not functionality, usability or stability.

Could be true, but I don't see it. They have a free version of arguably the most powerful IDE in the world. That seems to benefit developers dramatically. I've been doing Microsoft development for 20+ years and it just keeps getting better and easier. Sort of.

The difference between the VC6 and VS2015 is a lot bigger than the more recent improvements.
Same trend is visible in Office and the OS itself; that is if you compare it to the previous versions. Still doesn't mean that there's a "better" version of Office

...and can't tell where a control ends and the next one begins, because borders don't show up until you hover the mouse over them? Which isn't an option in a touch UI...

Which was the same nonsense; the buttons as defined in W95 with their fat border worked equally well - a prime example of something good that changed to something less great because it had to look sexier.

For some needs...it's more than enough.
