Hello all,
Imagine you start reading a book in your computer (let's say in Microsoft Edge) and then you want to keep reading in your Android phone where you left it on the computer...
Is there any free software that allows you to do that?

If you're using Kindle Reader on all your devices (and http://read.amazon.com[^]) in your browser then Amazon will track your location in your book no matter which one you are on.
It's one of the reasons I like the Kindle reader app so much.
For example, I'll read some of a particular book on my iPad (running Kindle Reader app).
The next day, I'm waiting in line at lunch and I open the same book on my Android phone.
The Kindle app asks me, "you're most recent location is at xxxx on your iPad. Do you want to move to that location?" Just click [OK] and you go there. Really great.
Also, as I recently learned you can see your highlights / notes for all your books by going to :
Kindle Notes[^]
It'll have you sign into your account, of course.

Well, it depends. I meant location inside book.
But, they probably know your geographical location too. 
Plato said this about learning to read... “If men learn this, it will implant forgetfulness in their souls; they will cease to exercise memory because they rely on that which is written, calling things to remembrance no longer from within themselves, but by means of external marks.
Others have feared electricity and automobiles, etc. 
I'm not sure we can escape it.

No - it's know what you're reading and where you are in your book that's disturbing.
What you've read. What you didn't finish.
If I correctly recall, Amazon can reach into your kindle whenever they want and do whatever they want.
And, of course, the GPS.

I imported a pdf book using my Kindle Desktop App on Windows 10. I was hoping it would copy that pdf to my amazon account so that I could read that pdf book from any of my devices. It did not nor do I see a way to do it.
So, this only works with amazon kindle books, it appears.
There are two kinds of people in the world: those who can extrapolate from incomplete data.

... and if all your devices are allowed to phone home. The wifi is a battery vampire on my Kindle 3; it's only on long enough to download a new book unless I forget to turn it off again, so that never works for me.

I had that problem when my Kindle Fire was attempting to read from a microSD card all day long and killing the battery. It was terrible. I had to remove the microSD.
However, I haven't (as of yet) had that problem with it keeping my location. Will be on the lookout though. Thanks

I think you misread what I wrote, because your response doesn't make sense in context of mine.
The only think your Kindle Fire and my Kindle reader have in common is the "K" in their names, so expecting any flaws to be the same between them is unrealistic.
0) Keeping the wifi from draining the battery over a week or two'd sitting unused would be a much smaller burden on your device because it's got a much larger battery to run the power sucking screen when turned on.
1) With wifi off I'm not sure how you think the kindle (any type) *would* be able to report its current location to the mothership.

Whoops. I was just saying my Kindle Fire would try to read the microSD continuously and then the battery would die. Took out microSD and it stopped doing that.
I was thinking you were saying if you leave the wifi radio on then your Kindle would keep on talking to the Internet so much it would kill the battery. I notice a huge difference (battery lasts longer) if I turn off the wifi on the device.

That's exactly it. Leaving wifi on kills the battery, vs being able to read a few books over a few days/weeks between charges; so I keep wifi off except when I'm transfering books to it.

I read one, max two books a time and the perfect App I found is... my brain 
Once I read a series of books on three different devices and I simply kept in mind the point where I was.

I doubt there are many (or even any) apps that do it across platforms 
But if you're talking about multiple Android phones / tablets, there are plenty of apps if you just look in the Play store. Personally, I use FB Reader but I DKDC about multiple device support as I have just one phone.

I avoid the problem by only reading a book on one device. I have a Samsung Galaxy 8+ (the bigger screen version of the S8) and FBReader Pro ($4.99). I have loaded all the books I plan on reading to it - loads of room, I have about 300 books there at the moment. Once I have read one I plan on deleting it from my phone but I haven't bothered so far as I have oodles of space free and FBReader keeps track of what I have read and where I am in each book.
Why bother switching devices. I always have my phone with me and the reader is comfortable, clear, and works well.

When your phone is charging - I also have the 8+ and the battery life is excellent but every now and then I get caught out and find I have let it go too flat to read myself to sleep, irritating to say the least.
I only keep a minimum of books on the phone, Calibre stores and shares my library. Friends and children all contribute to the library.

I have a long cable for charging so can continue to read in bed when the 8+ is actually charging so that is not an issue.

Ignoring the obvious technology changes.
Mine is cooking different meals; when I was young I got what I was given. My dad often told me ifyou dont eat it now you'rehaving it for breakfast. I remember the same plate of liver and onions being put in front of me everyday for a week.
For my kids I did Carbonara at the weekend, except the boy doesn't like sauce so I had to give him plain pasta, bacon, and cheese all seperate on the plate (not touching). I'm too soft on them but couldn't be arsed with the constant I'm hungry whining if I hadn't have done it.

I went to school by walking, cycling or bus. No one came by car except the odd sixth-former in their dad's car. We played in the street until it got dark, or just went off exploring the local quarries and caves, and our parents thought nothing of it. There was only one single safe-space, and that was the world. If you found parts of it unsafe or uncomfortable, then hard luck you just got on with it.

Same here: about 2 1/2 miles each way, rain or shine for me. Mostly walking, as my cycle mending skills weren't that good in those days...
