Many parents I've see around, torture their kids with studies. At times it goes to this type of extremes[^]. I've heard from my mates, if this happens in the US, the parents might be in prison by the time I finish posting this message.
But times are changing here too, Many "millennial" parents are doing great. They do leave the child free. But a typical parent of the 1990s used to literally abuse the children in the name of education. At the end the Child will pick up a bit on studies but lose out on the basic human traits.
On the video the child is so frightened as she forgot "2" after the "1".. And she screams almost like "After 1...(crap) that's nothing!, it's 3? oh No (Sh*it) is it nothing. ..4? No sh*t!!...its 5.
She doesn't use these cr*p & sh*ts literally, but her emotions were so strong, and the way she expresses it is worse than using these words. Poor child.

Sad and true, since I have experienced it first hand. Now I am a smart guy, but I have no social life.
I believe these practices will end with the practitioners because I for one am not going to do the same and I do not think I am the only one here.

There ought to be exams you have to pass before you can breed. Unfortunately, this would eliminate all entire future generations of politicians and celebrities, so it won't happen...

From one extreme to another, here in the UK education is like a dirty word. It's perfectly acceptable to call educated people "geeks", "squares", "nerds", etc. Being uneducated is cool.. and why bother to get educated as we've got a great welfare state that'll provide all your needs.
I've met a lot of people here who hate education then struggle to find jobs even working in budget supermarkets like Lidl or Aldi, then complain they can't afford anything (except the obligatory multipack cans of lager and endless cigarettes, Sky TV, daily trip to the bookies, etc) and that life just isn't fair and that there aren't enough opprtunities (despite millions coming here from abroad and making good careers for themselves).

I work with a lot of people from India, Africa and Eastern Europe and they (generally) have a much better attitude to education than us. As a country we've got lazy.. we really need to get our act together if we want to be successful in the future.
Now is it bad enough that you let somebody else kick your butts without you trying to do it to each other? Now if we're all talking about the same man, and I think we are... it appears he's got a rather growing collection of our bikes.

United States is the same way. Not going to get into the politics of it all, but many of the uneducated people here would love America to become an official welfare state, so that they can be bums on the government's dime.
Education is the way to go, but not in the way Vunic was describing - at the cost to the child.

In Spain we use "the neither, nor" generation (neither study, nor work) for young people that didn't finish education (sometimes not even secondary school) that are at home without job and without being in the mood to have a job. But with Internet, Video console and similars...
But in our case... politics has something to do with that.
"children protection" laws have been so "improved" that now we are rising a bunch of lamers, idiots, social incompetent, respect-less and good for nothing.
Example:
- children at school can't sit one year when not passing the exams because it can cause a traume
- teachers can not expel buggers from the lessons or send them to the head's office because it is not fair and as adults they have to show patience and be an example of good manners
- ...
I could continue, but I think you get the point
Many, many teachers are afraid of losing their jobs if they do something "not political correct" so they just get in the room, start talking in low voice and "teach the lesson", waiting impatient to the lesson's end bell. They don't even try to educate.
And as a parent is not that easy too...
Note: I am against violence with kids, but I think that sometimes a slap on the butt is not that bad because the kids are always testing limits and you sometimes need to really do it definitively clear where they are. But if you do it, you can get sued by another person for maltreating your kid.

Luckily there still are people of my generation that do educate their children the good way while fighting against the system because they do care about the future of the children (and why not, their own future, since the children from today will be the ones keeping the land alive or sending it to the limbo in 30 years or so)
All in all... I really try to remain optimistic and hoping it will get better.

Yep, that's pretty much exactly what we have here. We call then NEET's (Not in Employment, Education or Training).

I can't see it getting better for a long time. Realistically, I think things will need to get much worse before the public will support anyone even suggesting cracking down on things.

Similarly here in India there came a rule that no child will be disqualified in their exams till a certain grade (8th grade), because some kids had started killing themselves ( ). Clearly, the education minister understood that it was not the solution, so they abolished the rule just last year I think. In Delhi, they started offering additional classes over the year for underperforming children. This did not mean that they lost the childhood and spent the whole year in schools. They had to make school a fun place to go. Today, children do not need to bring food to school, the schools provide meals for them, a school is a good place for them now, but it is still a long way to go.
And parents, they have to start behaving like parents, there is a reason why people do not have a child in their 20s and that reason is coz they are not there yet, they need to know better.
On the bright side, times are changing and people are changing with it. Of course, it is making the kids dumber nowadays but we are in the process to find the balance.

I think our countries are at both extreme ends. What you saw on the video was a typical 1990s or pre 1990s parents way of teaching. But still a significant number of stupid parents torture their children even today.
Overall, 2000s and after, there's a lot of awareness not to torture children into studies.
Students here , are generally doing well, but the parents expectations are wired , they tie educational achievements to "Family pride". They are so proud to announce to the world that one of their children now is a Doctor & another is a rocket scientist. That's what bothers me. Their intention is so selfish & shallow. They groom such a spolit brat, that is so aggressive & selfish.

We had a saying here in the past: "Spare the rod, spoil the child".
I don't agree with physical abuse, but it's important for kids to have rules, discipline, motivation and support in life. Miss out any of those and you're just heading for trouble.

Fear of failure is a nightmare. My parents attributed most. Gradually started to realize the need for validation is heavily caused by lack of mental support by my parents. May be...

I can see it particularly more prevalent in a developing country such as India, because there is more at stake. I assume there is no government pension; so it is expected that the children will finance and take care of the parents when they are elders. And being elderly might begin around 50 years old for those parents. Unfortunately, many times children end up like their parents. One of the reasons is hereditary and the other is that children learn the most from their parents. I can see a parent getting upset teaching their child as they themselves where not academically successful. Have you ever noticed that most doctors have parents that were doctors? It is hard going from parents of street vendors to successful academics.

Children should be encouraged to get an education, and uneducated should not be coddled and then held up as a "good" example. That's PRECISELY what's wrong with the world today. Children are less educated today than they were when I got out of high school.

Heck, my sister's kid must've missed at least 10 full days worth of schooling last winter because, nowadays, if there's as much of a single snowflake in the weather forecast, buses don't run--and more often than not, it turned out the forecast was completely wrong and we didn't anything at all.
Did they extend the school year to make up for it? Hell no. In the end, something has to be skipped.

Yesterday, I was trying to help with a problem in QA where the OP can't get his code to do anything except show: "The program has exited with code 0 (0x0)". I'm assuming he has messed up VS, or done something stupid in a constructor, and needs to locate exactly where it's failing.
Today, he posts his entire code:
