His amusing style soon turned to boring. I couldn't stand it until the end.
As far as I'd gotten, however, I observed that he's speaking as though we all learned in "programming school" - which an awful lot of us didn't. I was almost going to add that "the best of us didn't go to programming school", but it's subjective and I don't have any proof, anyway.
For some, you just know how to program - this flow he spoke about - it's intuitively obvious. That doesn't mean one doesn't get better at it, for intuition doesn't guarantee correctness, but the logic of building a program just makes sense. Experience is a good teacher both in technique and building one's toolbox.
Coding is all very personal, or, indeed, his claim that we're imitating others would actually be true. Perhaps, for most, it is (and they'll be replaced by code generators). It's a fingerprint. Most importantly of all, it reflects the individual imagination.
For those of you who are good at doing math (arithmetic) in their heads, by now you've realized that what they taught you isn't how you do it in your head. You have your own rules, like adding left-to-right instead of right-to-left; Reorganizations of information to more but simpler operations; whatever organization your head prefers.
Learning how to code? To be really any good, you were born knowing - you just needed some practice.

That seems so true, whether you're a musician or astrophysicist. Still though, for the rest of us, some objective guidelines are good to have, and I think he touches on some good points, though yeah, it was a bit of a slog to get through to the end.

Valuable. While the somewhat hyper style of the presenter kind of "wore on me" as the video went on, I enjoyed it, and I appreciated the extent to which he linked his self-awareness of his own character traits to how those traits were, or were not, contributing to his productivity in a team context.

Sometimes I sense a strange ... yet, paradoxically familiar ... resonance between the psychic posture of "dog eat dog" and the saint's embodiment of the optimistic assertion that there are "better angels" in our nature.
It's a feeling that these antipodal extremes are somehow whispering to each other across impermeable ontological boundaries ... that I can almost hear ... that.
But, I so often mistake my confusion for insight

I am currently offshore, and at midnight last night I switched employer. Yesterday, I went to bed working for Maersk Oil, and woke up this morning working for North Oil.

As manager of the platform, I have just held my first townhall welcoming all the staff and contractors on-board to the company and outlining the plans for the next few days, with the management visits etc. etc. And yes, we had cake! We have had the ceremonial tearing down of old company branding and handing out of new company branded overs to the core team.
A busy week ahead getting head round all the new procedures and standards, and getting activity on-board back up and running.
Next Friday I fly out to Cyprus to go and take over my new rented villa, and hopefully a few days after that my shipment should be ready for delivery. You have got to love technology, I have been tracking my container and it is currently being offloaded in Port Said Egypt, to be moved onto a smaller container ship for the last leg to Cyprus. The week after that my new car should be also ready for collection, nothing fancy, no AMGs this time, just a very practical Outlander! All the usual stuff to do, Bank Accounts, Internets, Utilities, blah blah blah....
Can't wait to take a dip in the pool and enjoy the views over a few beers! Cyprus Villa
Then it will be back to work again for another 3 weeks. At least after that the wife and kids will join me the day after I get back to Cyprus again.
It's all coming together....

I guess most of us at some point in their life have thought about the hypothetical situation where you, with your current knowledge, would be sent back into some point in history.
Just curious. How would you do there? What would you do? And perhaps the most intriguing question: what knowledge would you be able to use and how far would it get you in the world. What knowledge would be useless? Would be a farmer, a knight, a scholar, a king?
Some things to consider:
- You assume they speak English or a language you know, but it might be the form they used at that time.
- You assume tools and the likes are limited to that time, you didn't bring anything you can't carry with you (on foot)
- You assume you have to build a life there: earn money, marry, ... You cannot go back.
- You have the knowledge you have today, but of course, you can learn there.
Do indicate where in history you landed (ancient Egypt, ancient Greece, Roman empire, Middle Ages, ...)
Personally, chances are I would die in some horrible fashion.

If I somehow survived I'd probably kill myself.
No way I'd want to live in those barbaric times with the knowledge I have now.
Anyway, if that also isn't an option I'd put my strong analytical mind to work so I can figure out who to befriend and how, climbing my way up the social ladder, ultimately becoming rich and respected.
Just kidding, I'm a programmer, I'd still die
