It depends on who I am talking to.
My roles here are the senior architect and the senior developer.
For the next months I will even jump into "Head of IT" while my boss is on a longer (planned) absence and I will be in his position for that time.
While in this role, my coding output will be significantly reduced, but I am still senior dev and responsible for the architecture here.

First, it took me a while and a freaking lot of effort to obtain my engineering degree.
Second, it's how the company I work for presents me and refer to me.
Third, I am not a developer. I write software all day all days but I'm no programmer - I think very differently from the average lego-bricks player that passes as developer these days, since I'm not concerned with reinventing the wheel, following the latest technology trend, avoiding low-level code and optimization... because I am an engineer, tasked to solve problems under constraints and I do what's necessary, trying to keep everything as clean and maintainable as possible but that is another constraint in the set, not my main objective.

My first name is enough. I am not into titles or whatnot. The people that work for you or with out know who you are and what you are. If someone asks me what I do for a living, I say software developer; no need to say anything more. I used to work at a place that a quarter of the developers called themselves architects and of course these were the people that had the big email signatures with disclaimers and couldn't keep their mouths shut at meetings.

I was just venting. I get sick of continuous emails where people need to tell me their job title, work address, email address, phone, ect... in their email signature, when I already know them; half the time they're in my group. Actually, I got an email from a PhD yesterday. I do not call her doctor, I called her by her first name and I ended the email with my name, only. If I am sick I don't call her, but when she has a problem she contacts me, because she knows who I am and I'm the person that will solve her problem.

Big email signature? I've got a few that are 11 lines, the company logo, and of course the disclaimer saying to delete this if you are not the intended recipient. Really, are people that needy to promote themselves?
