Yes, the local public sauna when I lived in Germany was mixed gender, nudity expected. Your towel was for sitting on. All ages allowed but I think it might have been over-18s only as I never saw any children there.

Now me and my son:
It seems I'm pretty jammed.... Stopped it when he was about 10...
Strange Thing if I remember the time he was a Baby and we took a bath in the bathtub.
Finally I have to admit:
My old parents where much more relaxed in this matter.
