While AFAIK it still requires the app to opt in  a few Android versions ago Google required apps to start allowing users to decline individual permissions instead of having to agree to everything to run. If/when they make this mandatory it'd limit a lot of potential elephantery; OTOH I suspect most of the scumware would just bake in a legit reason to need the mic so even those who're savvy enough to read the permissions will have to bend over.
What we really need is a way to cut off frequency responses above a certain level. Set it at the 4 or 5 khz that IIRC landline phone systems used and you're still perfectly fine for voice chat; but have cut off the too high pitched for most people to hear part entirely.

You can ONLY run apps from the MS candy store? Seriously?
The so-called "apps" are just broken, dumbed-down version of desktop apps. I've yet to find a single one that works. In every case that I tried, I had to uninstall the store app and go back to using the desktop version because the store apps DO NOT WORK.
Now I'm SURE Microsoft is deliberately committing suicide. I suspected it before, but damn.
