OK, so I immediately unchecked the show-bookmarks-bar option, so now, instead of the bookmarks bar, I've get an even deeper bar, telling me that I have to import my bookmarks to a bookmarks bar that I don't want to show.
I manually added this site[^], but that's not enough. It insists that I import bookmarks.
Seems pretty obvious that the bookmarks bar is one of the sources that google uses for snooping on you, if you're not allowed to keep your bookmarks from them.

Again, what you find interesting may not be exactly what I am afraid of; you're not a member of the government here.
Information collected is stored, and the EU may lay claim to that information for "security reasons" and to fight "terrorism". Even if I could trust Google, I am not going to trust a politician.

Import bookmarks from what--IE?
Move or rename IE's Favorites folder, then create a new (empty) one. Let Chrome import that. Once it knows it's done the import (of nothing), rename the original folder so it's usable again.

Tried it. I don't use IE, so only the ms bookmarks are there. It wasn't enough; the damned demand just won't go away.
