Fully agree, she was going to 'help her son buy a shop' and 'help out the community,'
1. How much money has she fed these machines that instead could have gone to a savings account?
2. How much time sitting on her backside in front of these machines could have been spent helping the community for real - yes money is a good, lots of money even better, but there's a hell of a lot of stuff that communities need done that money cant do - talking to people going through bad times, simple stuff like meals on wheels (yes they will cover your gas) all they need is you to use your your car and mostly your time to help, cleaning up old folks houses/gardens, and so much more.
It's the bullshit that really annoys me, "if I had X I would help" - if they are not already helping without X (in same/other ways) then sure as sh*t if they ever get X they will find another excuse to hold back.

With a $6.5k max payout I'm assuming it was just a penny slot or something similarly low end that the cost of an evenings play would be in the same ballpark as other more mundane forms of entertainment. If you get more fun out of plonking $20 down to watch a bunch of spinning symbols for a few hours than going to see a movie, or from $100 of the same vs attending a sportsball game; whatever.

Watch out today.
Because normals no nothing about how digital circuits and the software works, they assume the greater population does not as well and substitutes the annoying word glitch for everything bad including premeditated treacherous dealings gone wrong as for "why" it happened. And the victim gets a consolation prize.
A glitch was originally, a discontinuity in spliced audio. Now it's why you didn't get what you deserve. The Mainstream media is quick to dole out this term as it keeps their investigators from having to debug code that's not theirs just for starters.

Except, thanks to her own selfie, there's no indication that she won anything. What is being displayed on the screen is a very unusual cash-out [ticket print] prompt with an erroneous amount, not the announcement of a win.
When a slot produces a jackpot, it doesn't blank both screens, but makes a wild visual display and "locks" the machine from further plays OR a cash-out. The reason for the latter is that most states, and the IRS, require that tax withholding be done immediately on wins over $1200. It's also standard practice to put all jackpot winning machines out-of-service in order to check the logs and to check for tampering.
Again, the machine did no announce she had won $42 million, but that she could print a ticked for $42 million. Those are two entirely separate things.

The woman took a selfie and it points to a slot machine behaving in a very strange way. Both upper and lower screens are black and there are two lines of text indicating the win and that a ticket is being printed. This is NOT normal behavior. While it's possible that that line of slots has a debug mode that can display this, it's more likely that someone tampered with the machine. She probably couldn't have done the latter without alarms going off. I'll leave it at that.

Frankly I'm surprised that no-one here has pointed out that the pay-out the malfunctioning machine stated was precisely 2^32 in pennies (with the cents dropped)...
So yeah. Any engineer worth their salt should immediately twig that the machine was malfunctioning, without even taking the posted max pay-out into account...
