I think you activated the one-handed mode[^] (what a weird name). I've never used it though, as I could reach the entire screen area even with one hand. But some people swear by it to be a very nice feature.

Personally, I love my Windows Phone. Haven't moved to 10 yet, still using 8.
Between the members of my family we cover all the bases, and having used all 3, I think the Windows UI is the friendliest.
So, please keep on using that Windows Phone.

How do you like the phone overall? I'm thinking about moving over to one since I won't buy Apple products and I am concerned about recent firey Samsung design flaws.

Minor UI glitches but overall its a good phone.

If Samsung is your main concern with Android, have you checked out HTC? The HTC 10 is pretty spiffy, and has expandy memory and fantastic sound through the headphone jack that most certainly needs to be there and is. Camera is OK but not the best.
I'm not really a fanboy, but I've had the HTC One and now I have the 10 and I find them to be a great alternative to Samsung.

- Another 2 - my wife loves Windows Phones, but when she needed a new one last month there was only 1 Win10 Phone to buy from our Provider ;( - Anyway she is happy now - just to explain the resent Peak (+1) in sold devices
It gives you a warm feeling if you buy a WP - you feel like you have donated for the poor

So nice to hear that I'm not the only one who likes Windows Phones. I'm on my second and I really like it. I've got an iPad and my wife has an Android phone nut I just prefer the UI of the WP. The poor app support is a pain sometimes and in the UK the BBC iPlayer radio app is very poor but I've found apps to do all the things I want to do.
I fear Microsoft is going to leave me high and dry though.

That drove me crazy the first time it happened.
All modern devices seem to NOT come with instructions.
It's ridiculous that someone has to go to a non-company forum to find answers to things.
(Started out with WP on an HTC, then went Lumia 900, then 1520, and now 950XL. I had to have Microsoft replace the 950XL because I kept getting hardware errors on it. Aside from having to drive to Austin, no problem.)

Count one more Windows 10 phone user. Never had a smartphone (or cell phone) before that. Got my Lumia 640 about a month ago, $122 completely unlocked and delivered to my door.
As I may have written already in another post: It's a better MP3 player than every other player I've ever used in the past. It's a better camera than my $250 camera. It's a better GPS than my $120 GPS. You get the picture. This is how I use it - what's not to like?

count me in as an owner... I have a Win 10 Lumina 950 and a Band 2... had the Nokia 1020 before this. LOVED that phone! with today's announcement that the band is killed, I am really feeling like an orphan. looks like it just a matter of time for the phone. it's really a shame the phone is so much better than the competition, but the lack of good apps will kill it.
Did you know there were more features of the Band supported on Apple and Android devices than on the Windows Phones? (like meal tracking for one) It seems M$ only makes a half hearted attempt whenever they try something new.

Last week I wrote my first two tiny, Hello World type Android apps, learned to use, and enjoy, LibreCAD, amongst other dev projects.
This week I will focus on R&D for Android apps to control my Raspberry Pi and attached add-ons. I think there is a lot of commercial value their; there are so, so many custom systems that use the Pi for a great variety of things. I think the majority only have a Linux terminal, or Putty on Windows, to talk to the Pi.

I've been playing around with Javascript loaders. I'm currently in Australia with crap bandwidth so it's a great opportunity (I tell myself) to test loading speed.
The prevailing wisdom is never use the blocking document.write for loading scripts. Also, always, have scripts in the HEAD, not the body. And floss twice a day. And never walk under a ladder, it'll give you bad luck.
Basically web optimisation is like search engine optimisation: lots of rules, lots of old wives tales, sometimes actual data, and more often than not it's totally and utterly out of date.
HeadJS is a loader and they provide an excellent test page for a script loaded at the top, at the bottom of a page, and via HeadJS. It's meant to show HeadJS is way faster. Which it is in IE and Edge.
In Chrome, Firefox, Opera and Safari HeadJS is dramatically slower. Browsers continue to improve and the hacks we use one year are completely unnecessary (and sometimes detrimental) the next year.
Unless you're on IE or Edge.
Isn't it about time they simply joined forces with WebKit or even Blink and just helped the world have a single, fast, compatible browser? They've embraced everything else.

So much for sarcasm. How the heck could anyone use a browser that doesn't offer a way to right click a tab to the front? (Without holding 'shift'.) Couldn't be done even with their version of extensions the last time I checked.

Is that a recent change? The recommendation always used to be to have the script tags as close as possible to the end of the body, so you didn't hold up the rendering process whilst the external scripts were being downloaded.

I thought the same thing. For whatever it's worth, Yahoo has guidelines that talk about this:

But, maybe it changed in the last 12 seconds. Rules of the web change with every release of (Chrome, IE, Edge, Safari, Firefox, Opera) which is every 12 seconds.
