My copy of Windows 10 is refusing to update any Windows 10 apps, with a message relating to the Visual C++ UWP Runtime DLL failing to be updated. Microsoft's proposed solution is to reinstall Windows.
Somehow I'm disinclined to do this (reinstalling Visual Studio, numerous games, Music creation software, desktop applications, etc.) just to get a few crappy apps running. I've decided that, for now, I'll regard Windows 10 UWP apps as broken, as they seem to have managed to reintroduce DLL hell. Why I would do develop and deploy applications for that platform is a mystery.
Those who cannot learn from history...

I've updated some of the ones on my computer, and have had no issues.
I rarely have issues with WinX, other than a recent corruptdate causing Windows to fail to even notice my secondary HDD (for data).
A Geek Squad guy at a Best Buy near me knew of the issue (he had to help numerous people with it) but he didn't know which corruptdate caused it. He told me that refreshing the system was pretty much the only way to get it working again, so that's what I did.
And yes, he called Windows Updates corruptdates as well.

You have it backwards. With things like CefSharp, you load the browser into your desktop app.

Alan Kay has talked, in this interview among others[^] of the definciencies of the Web Stack, and in many respects he's right on the money.
It would be so nice if the web functioned more like he envisages, the tension is between everything being "Open for Extension" and security. This is an area that warrants considerably more investment and research than I see at the moment. Currently, IMHO it seems that the big players are more interested in getting user into their own walled garden (Google, Facebook, Microsoft and Apple) than actually providing us with enabling technologies that may actually make things better.
Shame on the lot of them.

That's according to a new study reported in the Cell Press journal Current Biology on July 14 showing many negative health consequences for mice kept under conditions of constant light for a period of months. Uh, ok, what a stupid conclusion to make based on a study that subjects a mouse to constant light for a significant portion of its life, and then conclude this applies to humans.
And what about those people living in the northern latitudes where it's constantly light for significant periods of the year? Do they suffer negative health consequences?

Well... the study could apply to prisoners kept for years in a cell with the light on.
However, I doubt that the countries practicing this care about the health consequences.
