Ahhhh....the old multi-mode and single mode fiber issue, which can be confusing when they start talking about cores vs strands! (as some people reference each strand as core)
After all, they are both single strands of fiber when you look at them with the naked eye!

Still, I wouldn't mind having a terabit internet connection. Not sure what I would do with all that bandwidth, though.

Ditto.........Think I would start automatically download entire content from 'some' sites 
I have a 100mb fiber link at home (not the UK one), but it a) grinds to a halt completely during peak time to content outside the country!  and b) randomly stops working at other times for brief periods. Spoke to some others on the compound and their's is the same, they even had the provider out to check, but not resolved anything. it is as if the DNS stops working.
The fiber gateway also stops responding now and again to pings, especially at it appears to relate to when the outbound connection drops as well.
Really annoying when trying to Skype family in the UK in the evening.

With 473 genes Syn3.0 is the simplest self-replicating cell known and could be basis for new organisms designed to make new antibiotics, fuels and drugs And it's positively, definitely, not going to cause the next global epidemic (probably)

This past November, a group of researchers found some serious vulnerabilities in an encryption protocol that I, and probably most of you, use regularly. The group alerted the vendor, who is currently working to update the protocol and patch the vulnerabilities. The news will probably go public in the middle of February, unless the vendor successfully pleads for more time to finish their security patch.
