If the member is gone, then the spam article can be deleted - Articles are always moderated, so they don't "feed" the automated anti-spam system even if they are closed for spamishness.
And you are a Protector, so you should be able to delete (almost) anything!

Always a little wary of overstepping the mark / abusing the Protector power!
