I think this sounds like a good project for the university CS program to tackle. I would highly suggest talking to the department head to see about organizing it as a learning activity.
If that's a non-starter, perhaps using some of that monumental university funding to actually hire a professional to handle your development tasks might be a good idea.
Also, for future reference, treating the professional's (or enthusiast's) bread and butter as "and bla bla" is not a great way to foster cooperation.

My friend and I have recently put up the website: www.chessratings.org . It is being hosted on my friends machine which runs Linux and uses Apache to host the site. When a user goes to the web address it works but in the address bar of the browser wwww.chessraings.org is gone and the URL of the site is shown. We do not understand why and we want to turn off this behavior.

how do you mean 'URL' of the site is shown ? www.chessratings.org is (a) URL - what do you see .. an IP address ?
Are you using a static tcp/ip address on the Linux machine with a DNS entry ?

Your domain is hosted with GoDaddy. It resolves to the IP address 50.63.202.10, which is a GoDaddy server. It looks like you've configured the domain to redirect to your IP address (71.187.235.187), which suggests you're paying them to host your domain.
You need to edit the "A" record for your domain so that it resolves to the correct IP address.

Once that's working, check that they're not charging you to host the site as well.

Hi,
In one of the site, the search bar is placed at the top of the page. But for smaller width devices, I want to place the search bar below the navbar. Now my question is using css (media query) I can hide and display the search box depending on the device size but I don't think it will be a good practice to add two search bar at different location in a same page and display and hide one alternatively. So what is the best way to display the search bar at differnt position?

Hey Andi,
did you have a look at the Bootstrap grid layout [^]? It offers lots of possibilities to adjust your content depending on the screen size.
They adjust a lot of styles depending on @media (min-width: ...), if you want to take a look in the sources.

Honestly, project structure is important as far as making sense, and that's about it. Some people like to make monolithic controller.js, directive.js, etc. Some like to divide the controllers into their logical functional areas and group them with views.
My personal preference is the latter, and then tying everything into a bundle. That allows you to target exactly the code you're looking for without wading through unrelated items. Web Essentials in VS makes this ridiculously easy.

How can I get the image to load immediately. I tried to get it on page load but it still is not showing an image. It is almost like it thinks there is an image in the folder that it does not recognize. I have 2 jpeg images but it cycles 3, the first one being blank.

I have a plugin in ff for ASO. it uses xpcom.dll. in latest browser versions of FF i dont find it. can someone tell what can be the replcaement for that or any opensource already doing it for latest version in c or c++?

Java support form browser is being removed, i heard JNLP can be used to replace in. chrome has already dropped the java. I have noticed that gmail chat required java( in ff it gives a pop up to allow java pluygin to run) and it work in chrome as well. I dint udersatand what google chat( gtalk plugin) is using in chrome browser?

I have visited links mentioned in that search( almost all) like i mentioned JNLP could be used to replace JRE, so there would be few changes: Applet cannot be executed in browser( instead on system it will be used). and with JNLP we need Admin privilege ( not sure about this).
My actual doubt was what gtalk is using in chrome as i dont see any java popup for gtalk in chrome. it is not using jnlp for sure, then what is being used. are there some APIs in chrome which hasnt been exposed yet and gtalk is using them?
