Hi All,
Searching through my Job alert emails and get an odd one 'Rugby Programmer Wanted' look at the location not for me, search rest of list nothing there,try to go back to the Rugby programmer add thinking what is it? Can't find it, can find a Ruby programmer job. 
I will learn to switch on the part of brain that suppose to parse info, I wonder how many jobs I have missed be cause of that!

Instructor: It's a scripting language that's a combination of SQL JavaScript, and other languages. Yes, it's our own language.

I am trying to imagine how that first meeting went.
Let’s take SQL and JavaScript, amalgamate the two, and then add in features from a few more languages, and create this proprietary scripting platform that only our team knows about. Will make hiring devs very easy in future.

I'm talking about people who have to use JS, not the people who design the language or who use it by choice. For them, we're in complete agreement.

I'm reminded somewhat of the time General Dynamics asked me to port old software from their own, homegrown language (GDBASIC) to a modern, standard language (hpl). Functions in GDBASIC were numbered, not named, and their parameters were a trade secret to be found on paper hardcopies distributed from an unknown office, if one was lucky enough to be on their list. And hpl was never adopted by anyone for long, because it was written all in lower case, and old punched card programmers couldn't get used to it. I thought I'd died and gone to hell.

The waste of time and money that results from government software projects is freakin amazing. Millions spent on a project only to have it be abandoned with the most recent change of command.
They've spent 8 billion on a system called AHLTA, and it sucks so bad that it rivals black holes in gravitational pull.
There are repeated attempts to standardize on this system or that system, and the reason it doesn't happen is because some idiot in one of the military services has been sold a bill of goods about its shortcomings, or some congressman wants to get the contract up for re-compete so his butt buddies in his home state can get rich, or whatever under-handed reason you can think of.
We end up with a crippled and thoroughly damaged system with nobody that can support or maintain it, or just when you get a crew trained up to do so, the contract is awarded to another company that may or may not want to retain the tribal knowledge, and even if they do, they try to convince the current crew to take a pay cut in order to stay onboard.
The whole thing is a freakin scam, perpetrated by the big contracting companies to keep the money rolling it at the expense of the American tax payer.
