On my work PC:

0) Start windows update.

1) Check for updates.

2) Wait a minute.

3) No updates found.

4) Check online for updates from MS.

5) Wait a bunch of minutes.

6) 155 important updates are available. 46 optional updates are available.

For the most part they're non-security updates at least; but scrolling down the list shows 1 VS2010 security update, 6 VS 2008 security updates, and one VS 2005 security update (and I never installed that version on any of my computers here) that weren't pushed via normal channels. D'Oh! | D'Oh! | D'Oh! |

It also shows 36 updates for Office 2013 which I had for a few days before rolling back to 2010 because Lync barfed after I installed all of the 2013 security patches that IT pushed. Gotta wonder if some of the regular patches they didn't push would've fixed it; but now that it's uninstalled why does windows update think I still need them. I also have 8 updates for office 2007 which has been gone for years if it was ever installed on this PC at all. WTF | :WTF: Looking at my old email I think the 2010 upgrade happened on my old computer; but I won't rule out dregs being left on the corporate image if they did a 2007 to 2010 upgrade there instead of building a new one. OTOH it might all be sharepoint designer 07 crud which is a separate WTF | :WTF: in and of itself, with the amount of time the external site lags behind the internal one a bonus WTF | :WTF: on top of everything else.

Edit: Looked at the optional ones too. 34 of them are language packs; and thus fully ignorable. There're a few driver updates, a SQL server service pack (for as long as it's been since I've ran that locally i should probably just uninstall it actually). The only thing that looks legit on that list is IE11. (Yes, we're still using internot exploded 10 here.) With no evidence beyond past history (every previous IE upgrade followed an upgrade to a new version of it, and it currently being busted in FF), I'm going to blame the Deltek timesheet/etc web app for being the browser blocker again.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?
