As far as I'm concerned the update went smoothly. 2 hours? Not quite. About an hour-and-a-half from start to finish (and that included downloading the thing). I have a fairly complex set up and was initially worried it might break something important. Nope ... Visual Studio / Office ... all my 3rd-party tools, applications etc. seem to be fine. Kind of nice for it to have been delivered over the wire instead of having to get a DVD or something. Maybe you've got a slow Internet pipe?

Yeah, it takes 45 minutes. But I got to keep working while it downloaded. I didn't have to go to the store and buy a disk. It updated without need for interaction, so I did some housecleaning while it updated. I mean jeez, what do you want for free?
Do I wish the update downloaded invisibly and updated instantaneously? Sure. Am I angry that I don't get magical wishes? Not so much.

Thanks and I agree with you about Microsoft not saying it's Beta.
I made a simple calculation - how much will it cost me to install a potentially unstable OS that wreaks havoc over my computer against waiting and potentially having to pay for an upgrade to a stable system.
The maths was pretty easy for me - it will be cheaper to pay for the upgrade later than get it 'free' now.

Well then, it's probably long overdue that you did some work with a cross-platform library.
I've used Qt back when Trolltech still owned it and more recently have had success with wxWidgets.

A couple of months ago I installed Linux Mint for daily usage, never looked back.
Blazing fast, no virus risk, incredibly stable, never had any problems with updating (did not check auto-updates though).
What amazes me everytime: After enabling "Fast Boot" option in BIOS, when I push the power button, login screen is up before I can put my hand back on my mouse. And this is some 2-cores 3GHz 4GB RAM machine, i.e. no fancy hardware.
Meanwhile; at the exact same time I installed a fresh Win10 on my laptop which is 4-cores 2.something GHz 6GB (i.e. better than my desktop). No AV, no crapware, not even MS Office or any other office suite. Just productivity stuff like Launchy and Search Everything, Visual Studio for development and Firefox as browser. It's already sluggish as hell.

I have never understood hatred towards Microsoft. They don't create perfect software but not only have they have always made the best software they also make it the easiest to build on top of their software and improve it.
There is no one that even comes close to being as good as Microsoft. Many of us have had good paying careers because of what Microsoft does.
If you are this upset at using Microsoft products, you might just kill yourself using someone else's products.

But so far win7 is better than everything after it.
Microsoft has since delivered win8, win8 SP1, win10, win10 SP1.
That's =4= major releases that are no better than win7.
It makes me think Microsoft no longer knows what it's doing.
If you put out 4 releases of YOUR software,
would you want that same track record?
That's shameful.

Maybe. I have seen others here also saying they've had a lot of trouble with win 10. I have had no problems with it and am quite fine with it. Could be your drivers, or other programs you have installed, who knows. Could be I'm just lucky.

All I'm sayin is I remember my beloved Amiga 500.
I loved that thing SO MUCH, but when Commodore died...
I kept writing software for it as I watched the number of users dwindle and was forced to realize the futility of not hopping onto Windows95.
I think what's underlying my rage is fear that Microsoft will do the same thing to me.
