Pros:
Really nice building that was built by a bank a few years ago, but who are now moving... The building cost €11 million (it was in the papers at the time) and it's modern, environment friendly etc.
Everyone got two new big-ass monitors to replace their old one.
My commute went from a 15 minute drive to a 5 minute drive (by car) or from a 45 minute drive to approximately 20 minute drive (by bike, which I usually take to work).
Cons:
For now we share the building with aforementioned bank (not sure if that's a con actually...).
We went to a more open space office plan. We do have walls made out of glass, and we're getting stickers to make them less transparent, but it feels a bit uneasy... Everyone hears and sees everything, at least that's how it feels like in my head.
Not sure if the pros outweigh the cons... I guess I'll see in the next few weeks

All the pros sound nice.
We're moving in November to a shiny new building in a more prestigious location. Translation: traffic will be more of a nightmare than it is now.
Like someone else said, headphones. The big, over the ear kind. Also, try to get a spot at the periphery of the seating with your back to the wall. Jack your monitors up as high as comfortable. If all that fails, cardboard is your friend.
Open seating was designed by millennials who have FOMO. Give me some frickin' cube walls to isolate myself and so I can hang a white board to think with.

I could go back to Windows 7? It's tempting...
And I could get someone to replace the "leather" back to my chair with real leather, rather than having it on my "To Do" list for me to do (I did the seat pad a year ago, but the back is now cracking up)

I have both: four walls, a window, and a door which is only closed to keep noise down (either mine while Herself is sleeping, or when I'm trying to concentrate and she is swearing at the TV...)
Cubes don't work for me: too much noise, too many people walking past, too easy to interrupt the thought processes.

I have three colleagues that talk CONSTANTLY, and loud. They are administratives - they have brief bursts of work then nothing for days - and they totally break concentration, especially on hard algorythmic problems.
When they have nothing to say they go on for days repeating every few seconds a selection sentences of the last B-movie or Internet phenomenon they watched. Plus one of them has the abhorrent habit of repeating hte last word he heard, so if someone is answering the pohne he usually repeat the last word of each sentence.
Plus the technocal assistance, which is made mostly on the phone, is in the same and only open space with the developers and administrative employees... Total chaos. I bought boxes of earplugs... and if the boss sees me using earplugs I risk disciplinary troubles.

Open plan office and the guy directly behind me spends most of his day in "motor-mouth" mode, either telling anyone who will listen how to do their job and why his way is better, or on the phone doing the same, plus he has the annoying habit of laughing at his own (so-called) jokes.
Thank God our boss allows us to have headphones

Wow! If I remember correctly this is the same workspace where the employees are allowed to access no more than approximately 7 specific websites. Am I wrong? But watching the telly is fine as the capo is into sports??
