G'day Sander...
Yeah, I've not been on here much lately... I guess when you are looking for work you kind of let everything else slip. It's been over six months and 100 job applications to finally get an interview... then I had a few in quick succession!! Now that I've accepted a role, I've turned down another role and declined a further three interviews... typical!!
My new role is a Business Analyst role in a software redevelopment project. I'm moving off the tools, but using my technical background to provide the business with an effective BA who actually understands what the devs are up to!

Something went wrong on Friday, a consequence became noticeable today.
I was asked if there was something wrong or if it was just a freak occurance.
The problem was caused by a stupid person failing to correctly follow a stupid process that was implemented to fudge rather than fix an issue in a stupidly implemented system.
I replied that it was not so much a freak occurance as an occurance of freaks.

I feel for you. There have been times where I wish our system (US) allowed me to vote against someone with out voting for some one.
Then we get to take the one with the most negative votes out and remove him (or her) from the gene pool.

Microsoft has apparently stopped supporting Windows 7, as far as allowing security updates to be installed. Oh sure, they're listed in the Available Updates window, you can select and deselect them all day long, but you can't actually install them using Windows Update without also upgrading to Win10.
I had reserved my copy of Wen, but double checked the compatibility of all my music software and learned that they all have issues on Win10 that may render them useless. And there are strong suggestions that Windows 10 is the initial hook into a subscription-based operating system, which means it won't really be free in the long run. I don't mind paying for an OS, but I'd rather sit this out for a while until I can see what the final costs will be before committing. So I decided to cancel my upgrade.
I went through all the steps to cancel - went through the necessary steps in the Get Windows 10 App to cancel, removed the two KB updates that install the Get Windows App, removed all the downloaded Windows Update files using Disk Cleanup in Admin mode, changed my settings to alert me to updates but don't download or install them, rebooted several times after most steps.
But no matter what I do, my ONLY option in Windows Update is the one to Upgrade to Windows 10. These is no Upgrade to Win10 option available to uncheck in the list of available updates. I can check all the security updates, but when I return to the update window my only option remains Upgrade to Windows 10, with an admin-only "Get started" button.
No security updates for Windows 7, I reckon.

One is common to 7 and 8/8.1: KB3035586. The other is specific to either, but I don't recall the KB number.

I thought it was KB 3035583?...it installed that irritating icon in the system tray?
I'm also going to wait and see and recommend to people I advise on computer stuff to wait for a while and see what all bad stuff comes of it...it seems every day there's some new revelation.
