Maybe but this often-used analogy often confuses people when they start to think about pointers to pointers, because then they take the analogy too seriously.

So how about this one: memory is an array, pointers are indexes in the array.
That's not even really an analogy.

People understand indexes into arrays, but "pointers are hard", and because we keep telling ourselves that it becomes true.
And then we use sh*tty analogies that only work if you already understand pointers and it just adds more confusion.
