I did watch an Ancient Aliens that proposed that the Pyramids were created by casting stone into the shapes and sizes required. They weren't really able to explain exactly how that worked but it was entertaining.

Cast in stone implies to me that the stone is the mold, and something else is cast in it.

That's even worse - imagine trying to make the cope and drag from stone - they'd weigh a ton, and the mould itself would have to be really simple as it would need to be carved.

I sometimes think it is the most important environment of all. However, some...most, don't. Yet they want me to pull great things out of my arse. I tell them, I can't shoot fireworks and daisies out of my arse without a proper functioning dev environment.

Pretty addicted to Visual Studio, myself. If I have to work on a language that's not natively supported, like PHP, I get an add-on like VS.PHP. I even bought the addon for Arduino development because the one that comes with it sux.
Having to learn a new environment's operation, look and feel is a distraction is why, I guess.

I was going more for inconsistent data in the databases, under-performing servers, etc...
BTW, I hope you are using Visual Studio in a development environment, versus let's say, production.

Ah well, to each his own...when I started programming we used MS DOS Edit and command line compiler to build it...and it was a luxury compared to using MS DOS Edlin, which was a luxury over BASIC on Radio Shack TRS-80
From that perspective, Visual Studio is an all in one development environment because you never have to leave it.

Pretty damn important I'd say. The quality of the tools and environment has definitely an impact on the quality of the endresult.

Unclear. I think the other responders assume you mean "IDE", but that's not how I read it. Please edit and clarify your post.
I, myself, have worked a few times with only a production environment and it was fine. Lesser developers would have run screaming.

The ashtray next to my keyboard was once deemed a piece of the equipment we could not do without.
So, they were replaced with potted plants. Works equally well as an ashtray ofcourse, but the plants usually die after a day or two.
