I'd like to be able to monitor things at home while I'm away. I'd like to get a wireless home video system.
Requirements:
- Inexpensive. Not more than $150 - $200
- Wireless
- 2 or 3 cameras
- Small cameras would be nice. Discretion is good.
- Can monitor from outside the house on my work PC.
- Recording would be nice, but not necessary
Anyone know of a system like this?

You might be able to do it with a Raspberry Pi and some wireless webcams. I remember seeing instructions on how to do that, but I can't find them again (my Google fu is lacking today).

Engaging in a bit of self promotion, you could have a look at tebocam[^]. I wrote it a few years back, a number of people use this daily.
It's only the software so it's not an all in one package - there are lots of options on it, too many for most users.
The cost would be for wireless cameras and a cheap pc as the software is free - it's even open source although I would recommend staying well clear of the code as I wrote it a few years ago and would never have implemented it that way now.
You can publish pictures to a webpage regularly, there is a ping facility where you can receive an email at scheduled intervals with current images.
When movement is detected it starts uploading images via ftp and will send an email with the movement images stitched together in a mosaic.

Give it a go if you are interested - it's a little bit on the military-grade user interface side, as it's designed to perform a function rather than wow an audience.
I have been using it daily for the past five years and it gives me a lot of reassurance when I am away during the day or on holiday.

The application does not stream video to the web - although if you are brave enough to look at my five year old code(it could have been written by a five year-old) I commented out the part that allows this.
What you can do is set up the publishing options so that it publishes images from each webcam to a webpage at a set interval. This is what I do so that I can just open the webpae and work and see what is going on with each camera.
I am not sure what the minimum interval is, but if you set it to 15 seconds(I think it will allow that) the application will ftp the current image every 15 seconds. Each camera is configurable so you can set different intervals for different cameras.
Bear in mind that the movement detection will capture movement and ftp(and email) this as well - the publish option is there for a quick 'sniff' of the environment or for people wanting to create time-lapse sequences.

Not for that price, unless you build it yourself, from for example a RaspberryPI.
If you want a ready system you need to cash out a bit more.
You can take a look at Synology for example. Their NASes (What's correct plural for NAS?) comes with a SurveillanceStation [^] that can monitor with motiondetection. It also comes with an app[^] for Android and iProducts that allows you to monitor in realtime or setup alerts.
There are two catches though, firstly you can only connect one camera without buying additional camera licences.
And secondly, motion detection needs a bit of processing, so the cheapest NASes don't have enough CPU for the task.

Not so small in the example given (but it is for an outside camera).
It is on my list of 'to do' projects to build a handful of the cameras, and write controlling software that will detect them on a network and allow me to switch between them from a (remote) web interface.

Growl lets you know when things happen. Files finished downloading, friends came online, new email has arrived - Growl can let you know when any event occurs with a subtle notification.
Sounds like the mother of all distractions. Now that I've heard of it, I'm going to forget it as quickly as possible.

Depends on how you set it up. The notifications can be filtered, and many of the notification 'views' are non intrusive, and you may not even notice them when you are working on something. I believe they can be configured to appear behind applications if they are full screen as well.
I use Jenkins as a build server and I am going to install the Growl Plugin to let me know when a build has failed.
There are a lot of plugins related to the program, including one for Visual Studio (2010, but it shouldn't be difficult to make work on later versions).
And OT: I hate my laptop's keyboard as some keys are goofed up.
