This is the app I would write if I had the time and energy to do it.
A Grocery List App (with ability to share among the family as a V2 feature).
1) Be able to Barcode in the UPC labels to make the list
2) List building mode, you enter the barcode (it looks it up locally first), and the prompts for qty
(Which can be defaulted. Mac & Cheese: 10 pack, LOL)
3) Text based (celery, etc)
4) Grouping (Fridge, Pantry, Spice Rack), so you can explore what you have ordered before and skip barcoding.
5) After building the list, you have a CHECK LIST to take to the store.
Now, the SUPER COOL part is to sort the list in the order the items appear in your store.
This actually requires a separate data structure of stores, that have sortable sections. And knowing what section the products end up in.
V2 Feature: Text a message to all interested parties when Shopping has begun!
(Or a "I am going to the store" function, so lists are updated before you get to the store.
Great for families like ours, where talking just leads to fighting, LOL)

Now, add-ons would include "Solve for Price". Where it could lookup the pricing of things and let you choose a small area to stop and purchase different items from. Consume the loss leaders from 2-3 stores, and save a bundle.
Another add-on: Work with the stores to "broadcast" their aisles to make things easier to find once you get in the local store, to sort the list for the user. AND Pay for this, by offering, ON SCREEN Coupons for competitor versions of the products nearby!!!
Another add-on: Find X. Given any product description. Using the store level interface. Determine where that item is at, in the store. This could be a product on its own. And is proof of the usefulness of the idea.
I am sure others might have some useful ideas to add on...

Fantastic ideas, thanks. The two grocery (and general) list apps I've tried are little more than "just useful", but some dedicated work, with input, could really produce something great.

Now, let's just for a second assume that it would be a good idea to make a selfie stick that looks like a hand, and that people would actually be willing to buy it...
(Outside of Japan, that is, because I'm sure that the are actually crazy enough to buy it) (He said, once again generalizing an entire countrys population)
Why not then try to make it just a TINY bit realistic and not look like something found in the "Living Dead" prop storage????
