Believe it or not, but commercial interests here in Sweden are doing their best. Halloween is one of your traditions that is invading our country at the moment (don't misunderstand me, I don't mean it in a negative way, more a sort of a resigned way), Thanksgiving is lurking just around the corner, and no doubt, that will be the next step.... 
It is, however, quite hard to adapt a tradition from another country when you don't really know what it's about, and what to do and what to say. Halloween is quite straight forward, In Denmark where I come from originally, we actually have an old heathen custom called Fastelavn (normally celebrated in late winter, early spring) that is quite similar (although not 100%) to Halloween, and how hard can it be to dress up spookily on the last day of October and beg for candy? We actually also have our own holiday ("All Saints Night") on the 1st of November, but without dressing up and begging for candy.
As far as I'm concerned, Thanksgiving is too close to Christmas, I prefer to spread out the holidays a little more. But the turkey part is certainly a plus. I love turkey, and it's something we rarely - if ever - get here in Sweden.

When I was a kid, it was going door-to-door collecting a pension for one's dentist.
Now, however, it's used as an excuse to dress like an absolute slut - very hot absolutes sluts - and it's a wonderful thing to behold. The only thing I'd suggest, to make the custom more of your own nation - is to move several month's earlier. It's got to be really elephanting cold in your country by the end of October.
As for the turkey reference. It's been my tradition for many years to give a Turkey something to be thankful for . . . we eat baked Ziti. (And some other stuff).

I knew there was something good to say about Halloween, I just didn't know what. Eagerly waiting for that part of the tradition to reach us. Doesn't matter that it's cold in October. Our young ladies don't seem to care about the cold and getting sick. They like dressing up like sluts all year long...

Nobody works on 1st May in Germany :P Because on Labor Day you dont do any work

In the UK public holidays are always on a Monday apart from Christmas and Good Friday so we'll be off on Monday instead. Also next week the election is on Thursday and lots of schools are used as polling stations and closed for the day.
A friend of mine's daughter is being very funny about going to school at the moment, doesn't want to go a lot of the time. So she told her if she goes all this week and is god she can have Monday off, if she then goes back on the Tuesday and Wednesday and is really good she can have the Thursday off too. Kid thinks this is an excellent deal.

We are having a double three day weekend in Slovenia.
