Sure - I could just restore my Win7-Image. But if I ever had to re-install Win7 from scratch I'd fear I wouldn't be able to activate it again if I previously agreed to upgrade to Win 10.

I think it would revert OK, but you'd probably still get hit for monthly payments for Win 10, eighteen months down the line, when they suddenly reveal that they did mean to make it OS-as-a-service, after all.

Oddly enough, I was looking at this earlier today (I'm using Windows VM's for IE testing - supplied from modern.ie, but they have a 30 day limit on them).
I read that this solution just gives you another 30 days and you can only use it twice though?

Dunno, did it on my own machine a while back. It did not start complaining after those 30 days probably because I also disabled "automatic updates" in one go.

Perhaps that's what triggers it off. My VMs are showing "not genuine" on the desktop background, but they're still allowing me to do testing.

Don't bother activating Windows (and burning through your licenses) for your testing VMs. Google "rearm Windows" if you need to extend your "trial" period...
That is, extend your search a little...there's ways to keep extending it forever.

If you're in the middle of some project, you'd rather keep using the VM that's expiring rather than restarting with a brand new one.

It depends what you're using it for I guess. The ones from modern.ie are just for testing using older versions of IE, so most of the time it's only 10 minutes of inconvenience.

Ah, well there you go.
Generally speaking, I'm thinking in terms of setting up test environments that take hours to get "juuuuust right". Otherwise, yeah, nuke/copy over.

In those cases, it's probably more cost effective to buy a copy of Windows (or use Azure or similar)

That extends the 30 day evaluation for another 30 days, up to a maximum of 120 days. Eventually, you'll still have to activate.

slmgr -ato works better as it forces the activation process.

Hello all,
This is the most important question I've ever wrote... 
I've just restarted the computer and I wanted to put music again, and of course I've found that I have to search again for the last song it was playing before restarting the computer.
Is it possible to make it remember what was playing before a restart?
