Starting at $499, it’s the most powerful Surface that doesn’t have “Pro” in its name. I guess RT is no more (would be nice if they announced it though)

 It was going to be great, I just knew it would be A solid 4th place contender for tablet OSes. Maybe 5th - behind Etch-a-sketch.

I'd love to know how it performs. Carrying one of them around airports (and not taking it out at security!) beats a laptop.

I'm a little worried that it only has an Atom. Not sure how that will deal with Windows 10 (or 8.1). I'm guessing browsing would be OK, but VS might be iffy. I am getting curious though, and that's a step up from previous Surfaces (Surfi?)

The biggest issue for me is the 128GB cap. I lived with that on my Macbook for a couple of years but had to bust out and go bigger.
But yes - Atom would make life leisurely. And I'm guessing you'd need gloves to hold the thing after hitting VS hard (though Roslyn may mean this is less of an issue)
Close, but maybe next year.

An area where the street layout is defined by topography as the streets wind around hills instead of being a nice grid is fun too. I think Venice's huge number of dead ends would still be worse; but around where I live wasn't a walk in the park either.

Microsoft is targeting enterprise developers with changes it is making to its Visual Studio 2015 pricing and version line-up. From 'free' to "If you have to ask, you can't afford it"

Meh. The only change was that they got rid of the most expensive tier. OTOH work has always been too cheap to even get me the medium one. (Or maybe they just default to Pro; I know they wouldn't spring for Ultimate, and Premium never seemed to offer enough to justify its price to the extend of being worth asking for before.)
