Don't knock short books. O'Reilly publishes a number of short books in their Pocket Reference series. I've learned more from these about SQL, CSS, and other TLA's than in most of the door-stop tomes out there.

Absolutely! Very often a quick-reference, which is crammed full of short definitions of everything, is the most useful document in the world, if you already know much of what you're doing.
But 37-page books that claim to turn you into a Ruby professional or an Android developer?
Anyone with any experience in databases will know that you can't store that much information into that many sectors.

...I've had a screaming headache all day. I've taken nothing for it and it still hasn't just fixed itself.
So I just cracked the first beer for the day. I'll report back later if it has made it worse or fixed it.
