My goal in life is to have a psychiatric disorder named after me.
I'm currently unsupervised, I know it freaks me out too but the possibilities are endless.

If I were us we might agree on what the difference between sense and nonsense is.
«I'm asked why doesn't C# implement feature X all the time. The answer's always the same: because no one ever designed, specified, implemented, tested, documented, shipped that feature. All six of those things are necessary to make a feature happen. They all cost huge amounts of time, effort and money.» Eric Lippert, Microsoft, 2009

If we're on this planet to help others, then what are the others here for?

To serve us lunch.

The real question is, why do you have an extra 'm' in your link?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Modest_Proposal[^]
Mine has no such 'm'.
Maybe because you're across the pond?
edit: Also, I'd never heard of that before. Interesting

There is a very simple and clear answer, but if I was to write it, I would be down voted, banned, and soapboxed to oblivion.

I'm afraid you are right, see?
Now the world has gone to bed
Darkness won't engulf my head
I can see by infra-red
How I hate the night
Now I lay me down to sleep
Try to count electric sheep
Sweet dream wishes you can keep
How I hate the night

Not quite up to Vogon standards...
If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack.

You really need to work on your analytical skills.
The statement "We're on this planet to help others." neither states that the "Others" are already here nor does it assert that they must be on this very planet to get "our" help, does it?
Your time will come, if you let it be right.

Others have been here a long time, They already existed in Roman times as early as in 180-AD Emperor Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus wrote in "Meditations" : “We are the other of the other.”
thanks OG, it's not so frequent to get Stoicism quote in TheLounge, so Cynicism and Scepticism are welcome.

Cycled down to the town centre this afternoon to get a haircut and go to the bank. I carefully locked the bike to one of the racks at the station, along with another 30-40 already there. I was gone for only about 30 minutes but when I returned some scunner had made off with it. I doubt that I'll see it again, so I can only curse in silence and hope the little weasel falls off it.
