That is strictly not playing the game. The whole point of CodeProject is that everything is free. If you start introducing money into the mix then (unscrupulous) people will start demanding it.

I doubt this will happen, nor is it needed.
There are 2 kind of people answering questions on CP:
- the kind that does if for the satisfaction of knowing they helped another programmer. (I like to believe that his is the largest category)
- the kind that does it for the reputation points
(there is a small percentage that falls in both categories but lets disregard them  )
If the person who answered your question falls in the first category then all you have to do is add a comment saying 'thank you, this solved my problem' (as added bonus you can accept his answer)
If the person who answered falls in the second category then all you have to do is accept his answer as the solution (as added bonus you can add a comment saying 'thank you, this solve my problem')
So in short all you have to do is: accept as solution and add a comment, and you'll be save.

Since most spammers have just one message which is spam you can add an IsSpammer field to the members.
If a member has anything removed (not just reported) as spam, whether it's a question, answer, message or whatever the field is set.
And if the IsSpammer field is set AND the member does not have any contributions anymore (answer, message, article etc.) he/she can be kicked with just one report.

I see no benefits with this approach, only the complication. I think existing system is better. Take this first spam message. This is either spam or not. If this is not spam, IsSpammer flag would be just pure lie, no matter if it is visible or not. If this is spam, this should be is enough to cancel the account.
As some criteria are fuzzy, reporting the to spam and abuse forum helps to accumulate subjective judgments. It does not completely avoid false positives and negatives, but improves the validity of action.
And first and foremost, I advise to use certain conservatism and cation in changing rules.

I had to re-set my Forum views to Threaded, turn off e-mail notifications.

We're still trying to work though this issue. It seems to be a database load spike issue. We'll be on new hardware in 10 days so hopefully that will reduce the symptoms.

The "Message Moderation" currently has four posts, from a total of two users (yes, two posts from each). The link to the user's profile is correct for two of them (one for each of the two users), but the other other two look like this:

Something similar is happening in several fields.
I.e. If you use the link of the articles' list of a nuked user, that will point to your own list
AFAIK it happens in Links pointing to user items using friendly names (excluding the member URL itself)

Perhaps posting rules could be more helpful it they included some warning against spamming. Of course, it could not affect real spammers. But we recently discussed a question post which resembled spam disguised for question, resembled it very much: it was very little beyond the link to an online shop, nothing related to programming. But OP's comments to the answer suggested that this person really wanted to develop similar site.
Not the best way of asking questions, for sure, but the adverse effect of spamming is still there, even if there was no a bad intention.

I'd rather keep the rules simple to maximise the chance of them being read.
Telling someone not to spam is like warning people against shop-lifting. Those who do it already know it's wrong.
