If you don't care to be public go for Github...For a single-user project you may also check Visual Studio Online...

I've been using BitBucket, which charges based on the number of users rather than the quantity of private repositories.
It's free for up to five users and a user is defined as somebody who has access to your private repositories.

Each repository can also come with its own Wiki and Issue Tracker. Really it has all the same features as GitHub, but the layout is much cleaner and the pricing model is different.

I've been using BitBucket for a couple of years for private repos. It's been reliable and easy to use. They support git and mercurial repos.
