Disabled it globally! I had only disabled it for Pictures but after I got your answer I went in and turned it off globally. Don't think it will effect me but I know how to turn it back on if it does.

I'm not sure if I want to call this a rant or a joke.

I'm trying to get a simple database up and running on Sql Server. I DON'T CARE WHAT VERSION. I simply cannot find the management tools entry for "Create elephanting database". It appears that over the past year, I have installed items that conflict. Fine, I'll clean it up. This is what I find in my Uninstall list - no less than 20 items related to this product. Mind you, I don't remember installing ANY of them. And my gin intake is sadly way way down.

I feel your pain, I have just finished removing all the SQL bits from my machine with the view to installing 2014, took hours. Then I ran a registry cleaner as the last time (2012) I installed SQL it bitched about express version, from VS being installed. Bloody nightmare.

Oh I got the registry cleaner from free tools recommended by Bill Woodruff, cleaned 7k+ invalid entries from the registry and I didn't even need the restore point Blush | :O

.

Todays exercise, install SQL 2014, I am not optimistic!

My rant has more to do with "Why do you make it so elephanting hard?"

What I have found is that I had installed various applications that made use of assorted versions of Sql Server. This is where the multitude of debris came from. Anytime I tried to remove one, I would receive an ominous warning about how something else depended on it. Finally, I just said f*** it and plowed on. And eventually, it was all removed.

So, I reinstalled 2005 (compatible with my VS 2008, yes, I know I need an upgrade), and now I am at the point of trying to connect to Sql Server via the mgt tool to create a database. Nothing gets me past an ominous message of not being able to connect....

No clues, nothing. Now, I have a good idea what I need to do, but really, it should not be this hard. I now have to stop playing and start working. Maybe next week.

2014 installed without a problem, unlike 2008/2012 which both required various tweaks to get them to work properly. I can understand using 2005, like word I have not needed any of the newer features of SQL Server for some time.

Just be thankful you are not trying to install Oracle Poke tongue | ;-P
