Although I liked my job and the variety of opportunity there, I was given the opportunity to work 100% of the time on a single vendor platform. This is a platform I had used for the last 20 years in other positions, that those positions were always vendor platform +.
No regrets with the new position.

I was working on a Defense Department contract at the local military base here in Texas. The contract was complete and there was no follow-up contract because, post-9/11, the money was sucked into Homeland (IN)Security and those contracts went to California, Maryland and Rust Belt locations.
I got another job, but it does not pay as well.
Lord, grant me the serenity to accept that there are some things I just can’t keep up with, the determination to keep up with the things I must keep up with, and the wisdom to find a good RSS feed from someone who keeps up with what I’d like to, but just don’t have the damn bandwidth to handle right now.

My first day on the current job was May 19th 1997 (although technically we changed companies in September of 1998 I am on the same research team and I still have the same boss as I did on my first day).
The job before that was a short contract just out of the university.

As discussed in the Lounge last week[^], I left because of events that happened after a football match.
The reasons I wanted to leave (or were happy to leave) were many, I was disillusioned with the management after various changes to them, I was made promises about my own career progression that were not happening and I could not see myself progressing any further within the company, but most of all because I had stopped having fun, I was miserable and being miserable is not good for you.
History repeats.

The last company I worked for was bought out three times. The last company to buy us out liquidated the assets and the CEO of that company held a million dollar toga party for his wife's birthday. True story[^]
It was broke, so I fixed it.

Top 3 were things that were bugging me...
I thought I would be there forever ... then they changed management ... and things went down hill from there ...
Management issues:
New management didn't know how to spend and save, money was being wasted on needless things, and not things that we actually needed.
Lack of opportunity &
Problems with the way they code:
Because so much $$ was being thrown away they tried to cut costs by ditching new, more "cutting edge" projects (that weren't making them money as they were still under development), and instead decided to try and further develop the older software that is over 12 years old, written poorly, and in a language that isn't actually a language!

I'm like this...
I give birth to the kid, I feed him, he starts walking and when he starts going on his own it's time for me to move on.
My last company change was mostly related to money but it also matched the period when there was nothing else I could give to the project neither the project give back to me.
Time to move on!!
