For without it, it seems I would have no luck at all 
Wednesday morning on my way to work, the driver of a Porsche made an insanely illegal move, pulling out of his left turn lane and cutting straight across three lanes to turn right at the intersection instead of left. Unfortunately, he never saw me coming and I was going the speed limit in this 50 mph zone.
If he had only used his right-turn blinker, maybe I could have started breaking and trying to avoid hitting him earlier, but as it was, he just kept driving diagonally in front of me and all the breaking and turning I did could not prevent me smashing into the side of his car (although I am sure it lessened the impact).
As I sat there looking at my deployed airbag and a ton of glass scattered on my hood (presumably from his right side windows), I checked to make sure I was ok and got out of my car. I was trying to figure out where the sunshine had come to rest, but several witnesses told me he stopped for a few seconds and then took off.
Another witness came back a little later and told me he tried to catch him, but could not keep up with him. I was surprised he could drive at all, because my car had to be towed to a body shop.
My insurance company will cover the damages if they never identify the driver, but even with 5 witnesses telling the same story and saying I was completely without fault, I have to pay the $1,000 deductible unless they extend me the courtesy and waive it.
My hand, shoulder, ribs and neck are aching a bit (I expect increased pain tomorrow morning), but I was lucky and I don't think I have any serious injuries.
And this happened the day after my wife had a biopsy on a number of lumps in her knee - we are crossing our fingers for good news when the results are ready on Monday.

In the scheme of things, you're OK, your insurance company will pick up most if not all of the bill, so it's not all that bad (not belittling it at all, but you could have been burned horribly in a fiery wreck!)
The fact that the driver of the other vehicle took of suggests one of a few things (stolen, drunk, kid borrowing mummy's car) one can only hope they shat their pants and won't do something like this again.
It would be nice it the cops could find them - if only to give you closure. I'm sure it would be quite easy to find them if the cops had the manpower - if they'd killed someone you can bet they'd be in the lock-house by now, but one must prioritise.

Yes, I know you are right and I have also been thinking about how easily I could have rolled over, smashed into a concrete barrier or something similar. My previous car was totaled in an accident four years ago, when an elderly lady ran a red light and plowed into me, spinning my car around 180°. But this accident was at a higher speed and it really does make you think.
As I drove to work in the rental car Thursday and Friday, I did slow down as I passed the site of the accident - hit me once, shame on you... 
It is quite possible that there is a huge brown stain in the driver's seat of that Porsche. After all, I saw the car coming (although I realized too late just how far across the road he was headed), but I really believe that he never saw me at all. A smack like that coming from out of nowhere would scare the crap out of most of us.

Hmmm it sounds like the story of Bruce Almighty  Well if you believe in astrology(we Indians do believe a lot) it is sometimes the planetary position which may cause such things to happen.
Speaking about myself : When i was in college i had a exam, when i was going to give the exam there was a huge traffic jam, the traffic police caught me. I reached late that day, i flunked in that paper. When i was returning home, i met with an accident.
When i reached home and turned on my TV it said
Quote: You have not paid the bill of your TATA SKY, we are discontinuing your services.
This was the most epic mishap.
I slept that day, when i woke up the next day, every thing was all good. After a few months when i gave my paper for re-evaluation, i cleared that paper with good marks.
Things do happen, the only thing you can do is take it in your stride. If you think you are gone. Well my best wishes are with you and your family.

Thanks. The results will be ready on Monday, but she is relieved to have this first step out of the way. The doctor had told her, he would have to make an incision and go deep in order to take the samples  . He ended up doing it with a big, fat needle instead - better, but still...

As the Porsche was probably stolen you may be thankful he did not stop. Pissed off robbers are not the most pleasant people.

There are actually a number of guesses when it comes to why the driven of the Porsche took off. If it wasn't stolen, the guy needs to have it repaired eventually and he will have to pay all of it out of his own pocket.
If they do catch him, he will be in trouble. Fleeing the scene of an accident is something that is really frowned upon around here.

If it rains, it pours.
I always experience that kind of bad luck. When I am suffering from cold today, I'll have a cough tomorrow. Then I'll have asthma. After a week (not even through from the asthma), migraine will attack. I can't go to work for a week or two.
But thank goodness, that's just once or twice a year.

You can replace the car, the wife however is more of a problem.

I am torn about the Porsche driver. On one hand I want him to get caught so I don't have to pay anything for this. On the other hand, I want him to die in a fire...maybe after the runny bowel movement.

Dammn, that sucks - Hope you get better soon. Rest with the nice though that he probably needs to pay the repair on the Porsche all by himself.
