Following JSOP's post earlier, I did some investigating - fascinating stuff! Looking through NASA's raw image files, there definately is a mysterious light on mars...

maths is short for mathematics, and is ubiquitous everywhere English is spoken.
grammar isn't short for anything.
Apparently some less well educated people overseas mistakenly use the word 'math' instead of 'maths'
They are wrong.
