we typically take the Route of Best Optimisation
If you're solely thinking performance, that's fine.

But if you take off your developer hat for a minute and think "better user experience" (read "added value adds ad revenue" Smile | :) ), I urge you to consider this use case:

  1. User bookmarks an article.
  2. Some years later, the article is updated and appears on the home page.
  3. User has forgotten s(he) has already bookmarked the article, and bookmarks it again.
  4. User wants to find their bookmarked articles.  In the "new and improved" Bookmarks UI, this article should show up earlier in the results, which by default should be sorted in descending order of bookmarked timestamp.  Rationale: Recently bookmarked articles are of more value to me than ones I bookmarked a long time ago.

Data point
I now seldom use the Bookmarks features because it doesn't meet my needs.  Instead, I email myself a link to the article, with the subject tagged with [Code].  My inbound filter files this in a folder called "Code".  I can browse these "bookmarks" in my email client by title and date bookmarked, and search by partial title (very useful).  Clickety[^]

Wouldn't you want CP to contain this functionality so users don't have to leave the site to access this feature? Smile | :)
